Dining

Olives Bar - Modern cafe and bar facing busy Gloucester Road. Light-wood paneling, leather armchairs, ornate plaster ceiling, open fireplace, and subdued lighting. Popular with locals for evening drinks, cigars, coffees, draught beers, and vintage brandies. The lunch menu features sandwiches, bangers 'n' mash, oysters, and desserts. A selection of 15 wines is available by the glass.

Olives Restaurant - Separated from Olives Bar by an open fireplace. Pared-down contemporary styling with granite-topped tables, pale walls, and brown upholstered chairs, large crystal chandeliers. Buffet or full English breakfast. Pre-theater dinner menus are served in the early evening, and later diners can choose from the chef's specials or an a la carte menu. Classic dishes with an unexpected twist, such as Tamarind-glazed Pork with Creamed Sweet Potato, and Jack Daniels and Potato Crisp Seabass with Jerusalem Artichoke Veloute and Broad Beans.

Bombay Brasserie - Celebrated Indian restaurant–actor Tom Cruise orders take-out here when in London. Diners are welcomed by door staff at the front entrance, where tubs and hanging baskets overflow with flowers. The bar area, with dark-wood chairs and tables, Asian screens, and potted palms, serves Asian-inspired cocktails such as the Bombay Skyline (vodka, orange curacao, pineapple juice, coconut cream) and the Mango Bellini (mango juice, Champagne, fresh lime juice). Dining room and adjacent plant-filled conservatory have black-and-white Raj-era photographs and a giant mural of Mumbai. The menu contains dishes from the Punjab, Tundra, Goa, and Kerala, such as Prawn Masala Goan Style and the fiery Rajasthani lamb dish of Laal Maas.

“There is room for inprovement”

Breakfast at the week-end needs to be better organised. There was a queue even at 9.30am on Saturday. This is obviously a hotel selected by groups and thus most arrived at the same time presumably to meet the tourist time schedules. Ckeck-in was ok and our room was fine.

“was a great place to stay”

The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Rooms were nice size not cramped at all, like allot of London hotels. The hotel bar stayed open later than the pubs so if you still wanted to keep your party going it was possible. Also they have 24hr room service, so you could order food or more drinks even after the bar closed. ( can't tell I like to party !) Place was clean, access to the tube couldn't have been any easier since it was right across the street. Had a great stay, I will definatley be staying there again.

Area recommendations
I like to stay in Kensington right off Gloucester rd. tube station. It is a straight shot on the Picadilly line to a very nice part of town. Only takes about 30 min. by tube and you don't have to change underground lines to get there, which means you don't have to lug your luggage up and down a million stairs just to get to to your hotel or take a taxi your destination. The express train may get you to a train station but then you either have to take a taxi or another tube line. Hyde park is about a 10 min. walk and other attractions are all within a short tube ride. Only a couple of pubs in this area so not much choices there but just go in any direction and you are sure to find more.

“Millennium Bailey's Hotel London Kensington”

Staff was great. Very helpful. Location is great. Lots of Pubs and Cafe's close by. A testco store across the street. Tube station directly across the street. All of our pickups for our excursions were either at the hotel or at the Crown Plaza the other side of tube station. Room was a little small we had to keep most of our luggage in the bathroom. Overall enjoyed hotel greatly

Area recommendations
Kennsington was a very good neighborhood would stay in that part of London again.
Getting around
Buy a travel card before you leave for your time there will allow you to use buses and tubes as much as you need. Had a seven day card and more than paid for itself over the week.

“Very nice”

This hotel was lovely but it did have a few minor flaws. The room was very clean and very spacious. The location and the neighborhood were both really nice- you can't beat being across the street from the tube station. We were on the fifth floor so the water pressure wasn't the best for the toilets and the shower- but it always worked even if it was slow and low.

“Will definitely stay there again.”

From the time we arrived the staff could not do too much for us. We arrived in London at 10-30 a.m. and we were allowed an early check in which was much appreciated after an 11 hour flight from South Africa. The Concierge was particularly helpful with information about tours, ordering taxi's etc. The room was clean, spacious and very well appointed.General service was excellent, and the restaurant was a pleasure and surprisingly good value for a London hotel. All in all a very enjoyable experience. The Reception Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful at all times. We would definitely stay there again and would definitely recommend this hotel.

“excellent location!”

After a long trip from palma spain to london , then the gatwick express , then the tube to kensington platform, we came into the street trying to get our bearings... literally across the street was the hotel. lovely , old and central. Double rooms smallish as my second room was a corner and almost double size. Not a huge deal as it was only for one night before heading stateside but just perhaps something to request. Bathrooms tight but modern and immaculate. I would stay again. Loved the area , very young and hip ...

“Overbooked and overpriced”

When I arrived for my booking at the Millenium Bailey's I was informed that they they had overbooked, so they sent me to their sister hotel next door, the Millenium Gloucester, at no extra charge. I cannot say I enjoyed my stay there at all. Both of these Millenium hotels are "millionaries' playground" type hotels - dark wood, brass fittings, crystal chandeliers, Lambroughinis parked outside and a doorman in tails and a top hat - not my style at all. Such was the level of ostentation and luxury that I actually felt embarassed to be there with a small child; even more so when we unknowingly got into the "wrong" lift which went straight to the elite penthouse floors. The prices of extras in the hotel met the hotel's definition of "deluxe", with the hotel's breakfast costing an utterly offensive £21.50. My hotel room was across the street from the loading bays of a Waitrose supermarket, which meant that I was awakened first thing in the morning by delivery lorries coming and going.

“A Constant Struggle--Not Worth It”

I booked a twin room (2 beds) with NO warning that this would be honored "only if available." We checked in at around noon and were told we would have to sleep in a queen bed together and that if we did not like it, we would have to call expedia. They said room arrangements were not guaranteed in their contract. When we protested loudly and presented written documents that prooved a twin room had been reserved, they checked in our luggage and told us to come back later. They said they would "convert a king into two twins." Our room was at the back of the ground floor--tiny room with two twins that had headboards fastened to the wall, so there was NO WAY they had been arranged as a king. The bathroom had No ventilation. An "engineer" came and turned the lightbulb above the toilet and said he felt air coming out. All was "in working order." We used the public restroom off the lobby out of consideration for each other. There were no topsheets on the bed--only a duvet--and it took up to 4 phone calls to get facecloths! In the morning we were moved to a larger room on the second floor. We were told that everything would be taken care of. We NEVER got top sheets as promised. The bathroom still had no ventilation, but it helped to have a somewhat larger room. When we reutrned from sightseeing a note of apology, a bottle of wine(we don't drink), and a plate of fruit ..We also were given "club" privileges--access to sodas/drinks(often not there) and minimal snacks. Not worth it!!

Area recommendations
The west side of London was a nice place to stay. The most important thing to consider is easy access to the Tube. This hotel was right across the street from the Tube station; however, there were a lot of stairs with very little handicapped access. I would look for a hotel closer to a handicapped station such as Westminster. The stairs are steep and dangerous in crowded situations with people hurrying to catch trains.
Must see
Hampton Court is more than worth a half day trip or more by rail. It is much better organized, educational, and less crowded than some of the other sites like Westminster Cathedral. The free audio guide allows you to choose how much or how little information you would like to hear about different topics or objects in the palace. Henry VIII's kitchens are not to be missed. They are full of sound effects, a real fire, and furnishings to depict the food preparation of that time. The guides in the individual rooms add to the atmosphere and are well-informed to answer your questions. Save time to explore the gardens and the real maze! The cafe has tasy treats but get there well before closing for the best selection. Even if you wait until the last minute, it is a good place to stop and rest with a drink and snack. Across the street from the castle is a dining room called something like "On the Water" or "Water's Edge" that has tables outside along the Thames which is full of swans, ducks, and people rowing. The food was good--if not memorable--but the atmosphere was incredible! Do NOT eat inside. Take the stairs down to the water's edge. It is well worth it to see the castle in the distance, the mansions along the shore, and the silly antics of the waterfowl.
