“Hotel was reasonably comfortable”
The lady at reception was pleasant and informative on our arrival. We were booked into a standard room without breakfast. The room was clean and provided with coffee, tea, cereal bars, kettle etc and a mini bar which we didn't use as it was rather expensive - in my opinion, however, I don't know how this compares to other hotels. There was also a nice flat screen TV with a reasonable choice of channels. The room which was on 5th floor was quite small and became very stuffy during the first night but we were able to order a fan the following morning which was brought up straight away. This helped and we kept the window open as well. There was also a rather unpleasant musty odour in the bathroom, we did draw this to the attention of housekeeping and requested an air freshener which they said they could not provide (health and safety?) We weren't in the hotel room long enough for it to become a real issue and we made sure the bathroom door was shut when we were in the room. We didn't have breakfast or use the bar in the hotel as there were so many places to choose from in the area at a lower cost. I would consider using this hotel in the future but would probably request an upgraded room next time.
“Good, if ageing, hotel”
Room comfortable, but bathroom "tired". Location OK, but a 10 minute walk from 2 tube stations, through not-so-nice streets. Good choice of restaurants directly opposite hotel. 2 buses stop right outside the hotel, with connections to London Bridge and Waterloo railway and tube stations.
“good overall”
this hotel was in a great location for us, easy for me to get to a course i was on nearby and easy for my wife to get into the shops easily! it is a standard business type hotel with decent sized rooms, reasonable service and a good breakfast. the bar although small was very reasonable - less than £4 for a draught lager in a london hotel is very good, and the staff friendly and helpful. if you want somewhere to stay that gives you the wow factor then this probably isn't the place for you but if you want somewhere that's decent value and pretty centrally located then this may be the place.
“Very comfortable”
We took the upgrade where the room was more spacious and better equipped, and were very comfortable. Our room was located at the back where it was very quiet. The service was generally excellent although the bar staff were not very welcoming. The location is good for Tate Modern (a few minutes walk away) but about a 10 minute walk to tube stations, Old and Young Vic and Borough Market, and about 20 minutes walk to The Southbank concert halls and National Theatre. Good value for the level of comfort and quiet, so we'll be back.
“Nice, but not 4 star!”
I got a great deal on this room, and it was one of the more basic rooms the hotel offered, so I can't really complain, but I've stayed in nicer 3 star hotels before. The room was small, dark and the overall decor needed a bit of maintenance (wallpaper peeling, etc). Shower over bath, leaked everywhere and couldn't get the water piping hot. However, the staff were lovely, the bed was very comfortable and the location is great! If you can get a good deal on the room, this hotel is a great option, but beware of its "4 star" status!
“PaulF”
Excellent hotel. Great location and good value
“Decent value for money hotel convenient for Globe theatre, Tate and the City”
Hotel was perfectly adequate . No problems, handy for where I wanted to be. Quite along way from west end life if you want that. Breakfast was included and a good hearty breakfast. Nothing to rave about but decent value for money for London. Mine was a prestige room but still small.
“Great choice”
An excellent place to stay. Great location, terrific breakfast, and very good staff. An easy walk to the heart of London, with restaurants and food marts near by. The rooms are comfortable and the area is very safe.
“Almost perfect”
Although rather compact our room was well equipped and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Despite being at the front of the hotel the double glazing kept most of the noise at bay. Breakfast was delicious with a very wide choice. All the staff were excellent being both very friendly and helpful. It was only the standard of maintenance which prevents me giving this hotel a higher rating. The shower head was loose and hanging off the wall at an angle which made it impossible to use without flooding the bathroom floor. In addition one of the lights in the bedroom was not working and of the 2 lifts available they took it in turns to be out of order until eventually they both failed at the same time. One morning we received an unscheduled early morning wake up call when the fire alarm activated at 6am. It was a false alarm which was a relief but we were awake and on our way to evecuating before that was known. Although slightly annoying these inconveniences would not deter me from staying here again as it is a very good hotel in all other respects. Two last little tips: If you arrive with heavy luggage to be faced with a flight of steps into reception look to your left where you will find a small lift. We did not spot it until a member of staff pointed it out as we were leaving. The RV1 bus goes right past the front door to Covent Garden in one direction and The Tower of London in the other every 8-10 minutes. Very useful little bus.
“Great hotel close to Tate Modern”
The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly. It is about 10 mins walk from London Bridge Tube and is a short walk to the Tate Modern and all the bars and restaurants on the bankside. Would recommend.
