The Place - A bright, informal Mediterranean-style brasserie with a terra-cotta-tiled floor, wine fridge, and self-lit bar, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A full English and Continental buffet breakfast includes pancakes and a range of healthy options, while the lunch and dinner menus offer a variety of international cuisines. “Hoffshar”
Great experience all around, we would return. The only minor inconvenience was no wireless in the room, but they were installing cables while we were there for that to be offered.
“Stylish, convenient hotel with fabulous late night bar and friendly staff”
Having stayed in Melia hotels overseas, I have been satisfied every time. This was first stay in a Melia in the UK and I was very pleased. Despite a rather long line of people waiting to be served at reception for checking in, they speeded up the queue and I was served sooner than I had expected. The staff are mainly Spanish, due to Melia being a Spanish hotel chain, but they all speak very good English and are friendly. The hotel has a very stylish lobby area, which was inviting as soon as I walked through the front doors. My room was on a high floor, just as I requested and very very well equiped and comfortable, but I was actually upgraded to a better room for no extra cost. I had heard that the standard rooms here are very small, but my bathroom was very small indeed and not really much room to move around in, so that was one negative thing. Apart from the small bathroom, everything else was great. I got complimentary toothbrush, razor, shampoo, conditioner, etc and tea and coffee is in the room anyway. I did not have breakfast included in my room price, so I gave that a miss. There are several cafes and places to eat close by (Pret A Manger, Starbucks, EAT, etc.), but beware that these are only open during weekdays and closed at weekends, as they servce all the office workers at Regent Place and other office blocks in the area. Great Portland St tube station is just across the road. The bar at the Melia is open until 1.30am, serves great cocktails and was very busy.
“Very impressed”
What to say - everything about this hotel was very impressive. Great location, good staff, room was clean, very nice, well specced. Recommend breakfast in the morning.
“Nice hotel”
Very nice hotel.
“convenient location”
Hotel is convenient to Kings Cross rail station, Great Portland tube station, and busses. Stay was comfortable - upgraded to superior from standard room - during the heat wave. I found front desk staff responsive, warm and professional.
“Spanish owned hotel”
A Spanish owned hotel with breakfast with Cava. Conveniently locate near regents park. helpful staff. room a little bid small.
“Classy hotel”
Highly recommended. Great location, great rooms, great staff. This hotel oozes class but has a very relaxed atmosphere. I look forward to staying here again
“Bad Experience in London”
We recently stayed at the Melia White House for a week. I bought an international calling card so I could keep in touch with my family while I was away. Normally in the UK there is a minimal charge per minute for local phone calls. At one point I noticed that the phone had been knocked off the hook while we were out for dinner. Upon checking out I was slapped with a $500 dollar phone bill because the hotel charges one pound twenty five pence per minute for local phone calls. At this point I told the front desk clerk that the phone had been knocked off the hook for a period of time and that I was not aware of the charge per minute. (not notified on check in and not in any hotel literature) And he told me to bad, it is not the hotels fault that we knocked to phone off the hook. He also informed me that I was lucky I wasn't calling internationally because the rate is ten pound per minute. VERY POOR customer service and would not stay here again. I would recommend the Holiday Inn just down the road.
“3.5 Stars”
The hotel is pretty standard for the 3-4 star range of establishments in London. If you're used to American standards, don't expect a large room if you book a Classic with a double bed. Nevertheless, the place was clean and service was good.
“London's Finest”
The Melia White House is conveniently situated a few yards from Great Portland Street underground station and within an easy walk of Warren Street. If you buy an Oyster card to travel around you encounter a lot of changing of train lines so being near to 2 tube stops was a bonus. Hotel lives up to its 4 star billing both in amenities, comfort, professionalism of all staff and restaurant prices. The quality of food and service is excellent. Not cheap but worth paying that little bit extra.
