“Mostly happy with the hotel”
As you can see from ratings above we liked the hotel. One serious problem - we booked a twin room and, when we checked on arrival, found that we had been allocated a double room. I am an elderly man and visiting London with an adult daughter. In fairness Reception dealt with the problem very quickly.
“Nov 2011 Europe trip”
The room was extremely stuffy with no external ventilation unless you opened the window- unfortunately that made it very noisy at night - the street is extremely busy and is near an ambulance station - was hard to sleep due to this. Otherwise room condition and facilities were OK.
“When you need something reliable”
It's easy to get to on the tube. It's a new building with some quite innovative interior design. The room was large. It was quiet. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Not a great neighbourhood but not the worst either. Functional.
“affordable accommodation with all the features”
close to the train station. the staff was friendly and helpful......overall good experience :)
“No free WIFI & poor standard of paid service. Crumbs on carpet.”
Staff quite pleasant if a little incompetent (girl on reception initially asked me to pay for my prepaid booking). Disappointing that the hotel does not offer free WIFI access despite a far from cheap room rate. The girl on duty saying that I might be better off paying in the morning as “..the WIFI service frequently doesn’t work” & adding that “you can also pay online”. I did pay online with the Accor-Orange deal, however this failed to allow me to send even the ‘lightest’ e-mails – so generally felt quite cheated. No iron in the room, but facilities offered elsewhere. Quite a few crumbs on the carpeting in the room, so I’d guess they don’t pass the vacuum very often, but otherwise cleaning ok, especially the bathroom. Can’t exactly say I’d recommend the place, but there are worse hotels.
“A weekend in London”
Overall the hotel was very satisfactory: the room was spotless including the bathroom; very roomy/spacious enough for 2 people; the only slight drawback was that the room smelled of cigarette smoke (it wa a smoking room!); breakfast was very abundant and good choice of food, but cooked food (bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages etc.) weren't of best quality, although perfectly edible! Our weekend was only spoiled a bit by planned engineering works on the underground, meaning we had to combine buses/tube/walking, so check travel disruption beforehand! Otherwise hotel is well connected to central London, despite being quite a way out. I would probably choose a hotel a bit nearer the centre next time, but this has nothing to do with the hotel itself. Probably the best Ibis I've stayed in!!
“Would recommend to others”
Clean hotel, friendly staff, breakfast room rather small for number of guests.
“Aldgate East”
I was in London on a 1 week business trip. I stayed at the IBIS hotel which was literally 200 ft from the Aldgate East tube entrance. The hotel was nice-small, very clean w/ outstanding front desk help. The proximity to the tube station and my companies office were my reasons for choosing this hotel. It was somewhat affordable by London standards (which are quite expensive due to the strong british currency), and i choose the standard room. To my surprise the bed was a platform bed, ie a 3" foam mattress-like pad on plywood. Yikes. When i approached the front desk- their reply was this is a standard room bed, and for an upcharge I could have a better room w a real bed. The neighborhood is in the EAST side of london, and a transitional area undergoing revitalization. Its not shiny, clean, or modern however, it has a multitude of Bangladeshi (curry) restaurants all w/in 2 min walks, and I felt safe walking even late at nite. Overall, a good hotel minus the platform bed. As a traveler, be aware of constant an dizzying outages/repairs on the tube lines, it made my tube traveling experiences very challenging esp on the weekend
