“Perfect modern hotel for short trip”

I've been to London many times but never stayed on the south bank. I would definitely go back. We wanted to go to the Globe theatre specifically, and this hotel is right next door. The service and quality are the best. Ultra modern yet not cheesy as some US chains can be. Felt more like a big boutique hotel. Our room was deluxe with triple pane (quiet) windows. Super easy to get to from Gatwick or southern destinations like Brighton via London Bridge station one block away. It's right next to the south bank scenic river walk so there are endless eating/pub/strolling possibilities. Next to the Globe theatre, the Golden Hind, Southark Cathedral, the oldest pub in London (the George) and the amazing Borough food Market. Perfect spot. Underground to west end in minutes.

Area recommendations

The South Bank/ London Bridge. Easy to get to and get around. Not as crazy as the West End. Plenty to do next next door. Scenic walking up and down the Thames in nice weather. Also try a walk on the Regent Canal, from the area around Little Venice to Camden, or down to Regents Park. Camden is nice but a bit of a zoo, so escape down the canal, scenic barge boats line the banks, great pubs near Little Venice, and even a Puppet show theatre on a barge... A nice Canal museum is on the canal basin behind Kings Cross.

When to go

Globe theatre is only open for visits/tours on the off season. Shows in spring /summer/early fall. South bank is in shade in winter in morning. Walk the north side if you're cold! Winter can be cold so dress warm.

Must see

I was amazed by the Borough Food Market. I had never heard of it. Held only on Thursday-Sunday I think. A foodie's heaven. Besides the broad selection of gourmet produce and other products, there are many places to graze on delicious hot food. The space is unbelievably dramatic - cool high Victorian 3 story iron archways underneath the rail bridges above. it spills over into the ever expanding south bank/London bridge area. So there are pubs and restaurants like "Roast" right there. Roast sits high in a dramatic glass and steel space that has to be seen to understand. Nearby are ancient pubs like the Globe. Also next door is the wonderful museum reproduction of Shakespeare's Globe theatre, which has fascinating tours even when they are not showing plays. They give special demonstrations on clothing and dueling among other things. A staff that want to give you the most for your trip. For history buffs the original Globe location is around the corner, and the Rose theatre location is across the street. This is the actual theatre foundations they discovered when digging in the area. They give intimate plays to raise money for ongoing archeology. Well worth a go and supporting.

“Our trip to the big smoke”

Hotel top qaulity and friendly. Excellent breakfast and when we had a drink at the bar they noticed my little girl had a birthday badge on so they brought her a beautiful cake and icecream with a candle and happy birthday wrote in chocalate! Thank you!

“Excellent hotel minus service charge”

Excellent hotel, great location next to Ernst & Young building and HMS Belfast at tower bridge. Breakfast was fantastic!! But why do I need to pay a service charge at the bar even when one of the drinks I ordered was not served to my table, I stood at the bar and was served and still charged a service charge. I paid but shouldn't really - mind you in London these days everyone is charging a service charge for everything - maybe it's me!!!! Wouldn't stop me going back though - excellent stay!!!

“Great!”

Executive room. Great location near the Underground and plenty of restaurants and other things. Modern room and amenities, plenty of space, very nice bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. View from our room wasn't anything special, but other than that I have no complaints at all.

“Can't wait to go back”

This is a first rate hotel in a very good location. The staff was friendly, helpful and courteous. Our room was clean, comfortable, and tasteful. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. The Underground station is location about one block from the hotel which was very convenient for us since we didn't have a rental car. We will return to this hotel on our next trip to London.

“London's best hotel”

This is about 5 years old and compared to most of the accommodation in London it is super modern. The rooms are very clean and well presented and of a good size. We stayed on the Executive floor which gave us access to the lounge each evening where they served complimentary cocktails and snacks which were super good quality. Every member of the staff from the housekeeper to the senior management was attentive and polite and made this a wonderful stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We were there for 6 nights. The breakfasts were superb although I will have to diet for a month to lose all the extra pounds. Great location with the London bridge a 5 minute stroll away and the Tate Modern 20 minutes stroll away with other attractions on the way such as pubs and restaurants. I never usually do these reviews but I was so thrilled with this hotel that I felt compelled to write the review. This is the second time I have stayed here and I will definitely return.

Area recommendations

The tube station is just down the road and from there you can be in all the top attractions in London in mere minutes. Buy an Oyster card for travel on buses and trains. Its easy to use and you get any unused funds back when you leave. Take the underground to White City and walk 5 minutes to the Westfield Mall. It is huge.

This is a hotel 2 min away from train/tube station, 1 min away from river, 3 min from London Bridge ferry. Mordern and beautiful surroundings, quite location, fantastic food. This is a best Lodon hotel if I dare to say.
