“Good over-all deal”
I enjoyed the the central location, which was very near to my acquaintance. There are some good restaurants in the neighborhood of this hotel.
“A place for the basics.”
The Holiday Inn Express Southwark is reasonably located on the south side of the Thames River. The staff was friendly and accommodating upon our arrival. It's a three-block walk to Southwark Tube Station, and a couple of bus lines pass in front of the hotel as well. The beds were too soft for my taste - I awoke to a couple of backaches, and the hotel could have spared more pillows (although I never asked for additional ones to be honest). Also, if you're facing the street, there is road noise if you're sensitive to sounds when you try to sleep. The breakfast bar features really bad powdered eggs (and believe me - if I'm saying it, it's bad), so stick with the basics - cereal, toast, yogurt, fruits and juices. You can also go to Frank's Place across the street for really good cheap breakfasts and lunches on weekdays (he caters to the businesses in the area), and for low-cost dinners try Tall House for Chinese, also right across the street. Still, for the money, it is a hotel in central London with decent access to public transportation, so I'd probably use it again if I had to.
“Overpriced basic digs”
I never mind, if I have to, staying in utterly basic accomodation that is clean and functional and this hotel is fine on those counts. But I can't remember the last time I paid 4 star prices for a 2 star hotel that's not even in the West End.
“Simple and Clean”
This hotel was very basic, but clean and tidy. The service was excellent and the location was fantastic. The only downside was the fact that I could hear everyone opening and closing their doors on my floor. Apart from that I highly recommend this hotel.
“Excellent selection for 'secret booking'”
This hotel was in a great location. 15 minutes walk from Waterloo. Five minutes to the river and a fantastic pub that did good food and gave a view across the river of St Pauls. We cuold walk to the ceremony we attended in Chancery Lane over BLackfriars BRidge. We walked back to The Globe for supper and it was a ten minute walk back to the hotl from there. The staff were helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and the area very clean.
“What you would expect for the money”
What you would expect for the money. Very small room, but pleasant. Decent location. Continental breakfast. Courteous staff. Nothing remarkable.
“basic but convenient”
modern hotel, clean rooms soundproofing to corridor a bit lacking. poor standard at breakfast, limited choice and very crowded. excellent location for tate modern, 10 min walk. 20 mins to covent garden.
“third room lucky”
I recommend getting an evening meal before you register at the hotel as there appear to be very few restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The first room we were offered was already occupied, the second room had a faulty sink, but finally the third room we were offered was fine. Staff helpful, but some had foreign accents difficult to understand. Room clean and breakfast basic but plentiful. A good budget hotel for the tourist.
“Good for short stays”
Well located hotel if you want access to London Docklands or the O2 as only a 5 minute walk from a jubilee line tube station. Not bad for travel to central London either. Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming. Room and lobby area very clean and looked new or recently refurbished. Bed very comfortable though pillows a little hard for my liking. Bathroom clean with good shower and plent of hot water. Only gripes were the lift was tiny and very slow plus the central heating was a little noisy when turned off ( I closed it 3/4 and that seemed to work). Breakfast was so so, but ok for this standard of hotel. Area around hotel nothing special but there was a pub close by that had good food at a reasonable price. Will definitely use this hotel again for short stays next time I have business at Canary Wharf or London Excel
“Southwark break”
Hotel has an excellent location, within a short walk of the tube/mainline station, Tate Modern, London Eye, St Pauls, Borough Market and a good selection of places to eat. Accomodation was good and the hotel was quiet, breakfast was OK but with a limited choice. Being on the sixth floor we had good views but spent a considerable time waiting for the lift.
