“Wonderful Welcome”
This hotel gives THE most wonderful welcome of any London hotel I've stayed in. It still retains traditional service and nothing is too much trouble. We requested a quiet room and it was completely peaceful! A hidden gem.
“great location, pity about the standard of the rooms”
This hotel is in a fantastic location, just off the fashionable marylebone high street, behind the wallace collection and only a short walk from oxford street. The public rooms all look well appointed and in good order, however our room, though very spacious was very badly in need of decorating and updating. The window sills were peeling, the furniture meant to be antique was just old and stained, very uncomfortable beds and the bathroom was tiny and the state of the decor in there was disgraceful not what you expect from a 4 star hotel, more in keeping wth a 1 star rating. The staff were very courteous and helpful but the room was below the standard expected.
“Interesting experience....”
It was an interesting stay for sure. It has old world charm, but at times too much. London usually does not require air conditioning, however this hotel didn't have air conditioning in all of the rooms. The TV system in the room was great, however the TV was tiny. At night, returning you have to ring a bell to be let in by the night service manager - which seemed quite odd for a 4* hotel in Mayfair on a Saturday evening. All in all I would say this is a good hotel (with good and reasonably priced food) for those who want to be in Mayfair (though not too near the tube, oxford st, or hyde park). It is not for someone who needs a lot of assistance or hotel service, but if you've been to London a few times and generally know your way around you will be just fine.
“Small, but Quaint & Charming”
Rooms are small, and not all air conditioned, but comfortable and beautifully furnished. Nice staff and pleasent dining room, too. Second stay at the hotel, and we would go back again.
“Good...but”
The history of the hotel andlocation are it's best qualities - and staff friendly, helpful. IF I stayed again I'd select an airconditioned room - for what you pay and to get an open window and a fan - is just not on in today's competitive hotel market. Restaurant was very efficient, English style menu - not inexpensive - many better alternatives within 5 mins of hotel and lots of variety. The location - just off Marylebone High St is the best asset of all. Ten mins walk from glorious Regent's Park - the famous Wallace Collection on it's doorstep. Reminiscent of an old English Gentlemen's Club.
“Good location, charming.”
Good experience, very well located with good service.
“Will definitely go back”
Very clean rooms and quite spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location!!!
“A gem in Marylebone”
Durrants was recommended to us by a former colleague whose family has been staying there for thirty years. We loved it. The public rooms are quietly elegant and charming, and the service is impeccable. We had a room on the third floor in the back that was very comfortable and very quiet. While the room was small, it was completely adequate, had reading lamps on both sides of the bed with separate switches (an essential for us!), a desk, two mirrors in the bedroom and two in the bathroom, heat that we were able to control, windows that opened (another essential), and a very comfortable bed. The sheets were changed frequently, and there was an abundance of large towels and lovely soaps. The room was always made up at the time we wanted. We had breakfast at the hotel most mornings, and it was very good. We only ate dinner there once because we generally preferred to explore the many excellent restaurants in the neighborhood. We usually had a drink in the cozy bar before going out for dinner, and we had tea there several times. The service was always excellent.
“Will definately go back again....”
Durrants was just what we needed, warm and full of helpful staff, lovely breakfast and a very comfortable and clean room. It is in a quiet street but easy to walk to Oxford Street and geet around, great for the Sherlock Holmes Museum, Madam Tussauds and the Everyman cinema. We felt that the 4 star rating was the first time we had felt it deserved in a London hotel, nothing "plasticky" about Durrants.
“Great for Toursists, Not Business People”
Wonderful, old school, old style hotel -- if you are a tourist or a business person without any real need for certain services. Our television never worked; Internet service was spotty and expensive -- hence that comment. For tourists, it is wonderful -- old, very British, high quality service, located in a "posh" neighborhood with great gourmet restaurants within a two minute walk as well as low cost and convenient places to dine. We will go back, just not to do any work.
