“Can't adjust room temp”

The heater in the room was set too high. No maintenance available. Front desk suggested to turn on air condition to lower the room temp. I just hope I am not getting sick.

“Commodore Hotel”

I really liked the Commodore. I rate it a 5. Adjusting to London Hotels: Before deciding on a hotel, I read reviews about hotel rooms that were so small that you could stretch out your hands and touch both walls. My Commodore Hotel room was small, but luckily not that small. It did take a few moments to re-adjust to the hotel room size. The good: Comfortable bed. A nice sized bathroom (one might exaggerate and say it was the same size as the bedroom). Nice selection of television stations. Helpful front desk that booked a tour for me. Off from the main streets so very quiet. The bad: I guess one could argue it is four or five Underground stops too far to the west if you're there for site seeing; however, smaller crowds of tourist do hang out in the area at night (just assume you need an extra 30 minutes to get somewhere versus if you stayed closer to the attractions). They charge 4 pounds/hr to use the Internet. Not cool. Going price at Internet cafes are 2 pounds/hr and if you're lucky you'll come across one that charges 1 pound/hr. Misc: Why the television is situated where if you open the fire door, the door blocks the television set is beyond me. Yes, all you need to do is make sure the door is closed when watched television, but in the morning when you're walking back and forth between the bedroom and bathroom the position of the television becomes an inconvenience.

“Relaxing country destination”

This resort is off the path somewhat, but very relaxing and very good service. It is primarily a golf resort and I was in the area for business, but I was very happy. The service was great, the grounds are fantastic if you want peace and quiet. With the remote peace and quiet comes some challenges for access, so you have to decide what you are looking for.

Area recommendations
Not too far from London Heathrow, convenient to Woking area as well.
Getting there
Definitely have a reservation with a taxi service, or other car service. A black cab from LHR is about 70 pounds. I took a bus to Woking railway station and a cab from there, but I do not recommend it as it is a lot of work and time.

“Very nice hotel”

Good location, walking distance to Paddington and close to Lancaster Gate tube station. Very comfortable room with Neutrogena products, a safe, and a view of the church-turned-condos across the street.

“A VERY PLEASANT STAY ON A WARM OCTOBER EVENING”

I had read some very negative reviews about this hotel and was therefore quite nervous about what I would find. I arrived by train at Paddington and walked to The hotel is quite easy to walk to if you select the correct route. The hotel is in a quiet square away from the bustle of the Bayswater Rd. I was given a ground floor room next to the elevator so I was concerned about noise. As it turned out the noise level was not high except for a few loud talking guests. The room was OK and the bathroom was well appointed and everything worked. The bed was large and comfortable but squeezing by it to get to the window was tight. My stay was a pleasant one and the price I got was better than others in the West End. It was a warm October day but the high ceiling in the room made it comfortable. I opened the window and did not get bothered by the noise in the Square outside, just a few cars arriving and departing. I slept well and departed satisfied.

Area recommendations
I walked to the south end of Mayfair which is a mile or so with part of the route through Hyde Park. Go to Shepherd's Market which is a small neighbourhood of old houses, pubs and restaurants near Piccadily. A good place to hang out, read and people watch. Also look at the windows of "Tradition" which makes beautiful model soldiers. The hotel is very close to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Five to ten minutes away on the other side of the Bayswater Road.
Getting around
London is a walking city. Get out and get lost with a map to help you find yourself again. Walk and look and you will find all types of interesting places with connections to London's lengthy history as an international city. Once you are tired use the Tube(Underground) but first get and Oyster Card if you are staying for a while or at least get a day pass. The normal return and one way tickets are deliberately set at a higher rate than the one you normally get on Oyster. This is planned so that the Oyster card is more attractive so take advantage of it. Walk the south bank from opposite the Houses of Parliament to beyond Tower Bridge and stop at Borough Market on the way, if you are in town between Thursday and Saturday. Sample the coffee and breads and jam at Monmouth Coffee Company next to the Market. Finally , visit the Wallace Collection (brilliantly eclectic!) housed just north of Oxford Street and if you are there in the colder months, have a warming drink in the snug bar of Durrant's Hotel. This is one of London's traditional hotels which is used by people who come to London from the provinces once of twice a year. I once overheard a lady complain to the senior manager that the linens were just not up to standard anymore. MIne were perfect, but it was interesting to hear her talk as if the Hotel was a long-standing part of the family.

“Location, Location, Location”

After finishing up with a tour throughout the UK, my friend and I decided to stay several extra days in London. Through the tour we had been booked at a modern, bare bones hotel in Islington. The double bed there was teeny, tiny. Also when coming home one evening, the neighborhood felt a bit unsafe. Our move to The Commodore Hotel near Kensington Park was terrific. This hotel was quieter than our hotel in Islington. We took advantage of walking to Notting Hill from The Commodore, catching the tube at a station nearby, and finding a good "little store" around the corner. We both liked the continually replenished fruit bowel in the lobby. (The bananas we were are better than those we get in the USA.) The hotel elevator is small, but we managed.

Area recommendations
There are many, many fascinating neighborhoods in London. Chelsea and Notting Hill are two other places, besides the Paddington Station area, that I like because of convenience to shopping and sites.

“Adorable room with patio!”

The hotel itself was adorable. I had a mini patio right outside the bedrrom which was a wonderful surprise! There was some mis-communication as whether breakfast was included in my reservation (it wasn't but I was told it was, and later found out it wasn't), but it was a good stay other than that. From what I saw online, it also looked like the nicest hotel within its pricepont. It was also close to the tube, so traveling was convenient!

“Not thrilled with our experience at this hotel”

The room had two twin beds, a small end table inbetween and a large closet (wardrobe) housing the TV, space for clothes and the coffee making facilities. There is approximately 2 feet of space between the bed and the wardrobe. We had to walk sideways at the end of the bed, as there was only about 1 foot of space to the wall. There was nowhere to put our two suitcases and two carry ons. We ended up having to stack them by the door. It would have been a real problem if there was a fire and we had to get out of the room quickly. The window opened, but could not be locked. We were on the ground floor, right next to the elevator. The internet access was intermittent and exhorbitantly priced. What a ripoff. The equivalent of almost a month in USA a day! We tried to change rooms but were told the hotel was full and nothing was available. The next morning a less than polite receptionist said they would "try" to change rooms for us. I explained I would be checking out if our room was not changed by the time we returned from breakfast. Miraculously, a room was found. On the 5th floor. The elevator went to the 6th floor, and you had to take a flight of stairs down to the room. The elevaor did not stop on that floor!!!! The second room was much better, but if we had selected this room originally it would have been approx double what we paid for the night. We had intended to return for our last two nights in Europe. I chose another hotel for the last leg. Would not use this one again.

Area recommendations
Location was very good. Close to tube stop and lots of busses along Bayswater Road. Buy the day pass at the tube station - covers the underground and all bus transport also, and gets you almost anywhere in the city for a very small amount compared to cost of taxis etc. Go to Leicester Square for numerous booths offering close to half price tickets for West End shows on the day of performance. We saw "Wicked" which was OK, and "We Will Rock You" which was brilliant.

“Clean, comfortable and convenient”

The Commodore is a fine hotel. It is located a short walk from the Lancaster gate stop on the Central Line and therefore is surprisngly convenient despite the distance if you are doing business in The City. It is also convenient for sightseeing as it is very near Hyde Park, Marble Arch and Bond Street. The room and bath were very clean, the water hot and strong, and the breakfasts good. Staff were very professional and pleasant. The only drawback was that room was a bit small. I will stay there again.
