We wanted to visit the Costa Brava region of Spain as an extension of our visit to Barcelona. We were not disappointed with our decision to go to one of the closest beaches, Santa Cristina in the Lloret de Mar district. Santa Marta Hotel overlooks this beautiful beach and provided a wonderful and restful stay for me, my husband and our teenage daughter. Upon arrival, I requested a room overlooking the sea and they accommodated us. The room had a spacious balcony and plenty of room for all three of us. The bathroom even had double sinks, a bidet, and everything was impeccably clean. On site was a wonderful restaurant which served dinner on a terrace overlooking the sea, a breakfast buffet on an equally beautiful terrace, and a lunch buffet on the beach. The food was amazing. We loved the complementary appetizers at the start of each dinner, and the complementary glasses of cava. The Hotel also had a wonderful salt water pool, a hot tub, tennis courts, library, and live performances in the evening. The staff was attentive and engaging. We loved every aspect of our stay and would highly recommend this Hotel for all types of travelers.
The location is brilliant: less than five minutes walk to the coach station, the beach and cute local shops. The facilities were brilliant: breakfast included had a large variety, bar was always open, they had showers and a room to keep stuff in for after we checked out as our flight wasn't until the evening. The staff were so friendly and helpful, we kept asking hundreds of questions about places to go, prices etc. They spoke very good spanish and english and always smiled. It was big and clean. Free wifi in the bar, have to pay for other areas of the hotel but not really necessary. Only down side was that the views were of neighbouring buildings.
I don't recommend their continental breakfast if you are expecting an american type breakfast buffet this is not it.
The rooms where nice, housekeeping came every day. The hotel staff was really nice. Didn't visit the pool area since we where never in the hotel during the day. Ask at the hotel desk for anything going around in the area they have discounts for you and will schedule anything you like. All in all we love the hotel and the area and we didn't want to leave.
we cant fault the hotel or resort or the local businesses which were open. the only problem was, it was a little bit early in the season and there wasnt a lot of choice for eating or drinking out as a lot of places were still closed.
Lloret itself is a lovely place with a very nice beach area. It will no doubt be a different type of holiday in peak season, but for a break off season we found it nice and relaxing and pleasantly warm ( needed a cardi in the evenings ).
It is an ideal location for travel to other areas, with a good bus service and links to train.
In the hotel, if you like dancing it is superb. ( every night ) We dont dance but enjoyed watching. We were the only English staying at the time, it was nearly all spanish, and they enjoyed their dancing. We felt like some of the youngest in there and we are 50!! It was very entertaining as we love to people watch.
We enjoyed a day in Barcelona. We got the bus and train and it was no hassle at all, relatively inexpensive. So much better service than English buses and trains.
We would definately return, maybe a few weeks later next time.
The Hostal Magnolia is a friendly guest house located only minutes away from the beach. The staff are all brilliant, they couldn't do enough to help us, especially Goyo who ensured I got a hot chocolate before bed despite the fact he had already closed up the bar for the night. We were made to feel like family during our stay, even getting an invite to the owners Birthday Party. We had a lovely stay and would recommend this guest house to anyone wanting a home from home feel to their holiday.
A playground for British family holidaymakers on a budget for over four decades, densely developed Lloret de Mar is the biggest resort on this coast. The five long sandy beaches are its pride and joy, four of which are backed by pine trees. Water World Lloret is a major water park while a water taxi service links Lloret de Mar to other seaside resorts. After dark, dozens of international-themed bars and discos host an all-night party scene.
