“Excellent hotel, highly recommended”
Used this as a last minute booking through Expedia. Took a chance on it, and was delighted. Nice hotel, helpful staff, comfortable room, clean bathroom, excellent breakfast. Corridors looked slightly tired, but other communal areas and rooms were fantastic Highly recommended.
“Short Break”
This is a large, old, but well kept hotel with a large car park. It is obviously very popular, especially at weekends. The staff were helpful and attentive. At the time of booking we asked for a room near a lift and we were very pleased to find that we had been given a very large one, on the second floor at the front of the hotel, almost opposite the lift. It was very quiet with no noise from anywhere. Breakfast was self service and dinner was a carvery and you could eat as much as you liked. There was a wide choice and my only complaint was that the soup was the same on the two days we stayed and it was tasteless. We enjoyed our break and would certainly be happy to stay here again..
“Excellent Service, But Room Was Cold”
We stayed in an executive double (210) The room was nicely furnished and very clean, the only downside was that it was very cold, (the housekeeper did find us an electric heater) The large bathroom had a small towel warmer which was far from sufficient for a room of that size. The service from the staff was excellent, very nice lounge area with two open fire's. The food was also very nice. Would stay again but during the summer months.
“Cheap and clean with a good breakfast!”
This is an old hotel and is abit tired in places but is clean and excellent value for money. The breakfast was lovely and there was lots of choice. We stayed on the 2nd floor and had booked a double but ended up with a twin as that is all they had left. So we just pushed the beds together so it wasn't really too much of a problem. The only downside was the lack of hotel car parking.
“well chuffed”
We have been to this hotel many times and have stayed in most of the rooms including the penthouse suite. We stayed on the lower ground floor this time and the rooms were brilliant the whole floor has been refurbished and even though we didn't pay for a spa bath we had one in the bathroom even though it didn't work but we didn't complain because with the airiated water we didn't need it. We throughly recommend this site and the hotel to anyone
“Bit like a nursing home”
Hotel in good central position. Seemed geared up to parties of pensioners, albeit very nice pensioners. Hotel states room service 24 hrs. Came in at 11pm, went to reception and asked to order 2 sandwiches. Was told by receptionist she would have to check with deputy manager if we could have them as there had been a complaint from a lady in the room above where the sandwiches were made about noise from the kitchen. The deputy manager came out and said he could make the sandwiches but he would have to be quiet. Rather strange attitude for a large hotel I thought
“Typically British”
A once great hotel that has now been reduced to keeping it's head above water by taking in coach loads of pensioners. Three coach loads for the week that we were there. Such a pity as the building is truly magnificent and could be one of the leading hotels in the North. Very friendly staff, always helpful, and an excellent buffet breakfast.
“Living on Past Glories!”
This was a lovely hotel once. It has a lot of character. It needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to modern day requirements.
“Great breakfast, but hotel needs restoration”
Hotel is in need of restoration, rooms are very warm and the only way to cool it down is sleep with the window open.found the staff to be less than helpfully. Breakfast though was excellent They offer super delux ect but this is far from relality.
“The worst nights sleep...ever!”
After one night in this hotel I was absolutely shattered. Our room was located on the 3rd floor, which is in dire need of some TLC. The corridors resembled something out of "The Shining". Our room was tiny, with the smallest window ( which the curtains didn`t fit ). The bed was uncomfortable and the lights in the corridor were supposedly on a sensor, but kept clicking on and off all night even when there was no movement in the corridor. I have read other reviews for this hotel and think we may have been very unlucky, but I wouldn`t risk another bads night sleep here!!!
