“vila gale cascais”
its a good hotel over looking the marina and lighthouse , breakfast plenty of variety to eat , if your looking for a good hotel for a base to get into lisbon and sintra cant fault it . this is the second time been in cascais in four years , the only down side we noticed is the trains into lisbon have been vadalised with graffiti inside and out..
“Needs Brighter lights”
We enjoyed our short stay very much. The hotel is next door to a lovely castle/stately home/museum which is free and the marina. As the latter is brand new it will take time to fill up with the sailing set. The walk into town is pleasant , past the citadel and the fishing area and the town swimming beach. The centre of Cascais is attractive and pedestrainised and not too tacky. Flores street is lined with restaurants of which the Pimento is very good at the cheaper end and the smaller place just opposite called the Cho Cho (or something similar) Breakfast buffet at the hotel is superb and the pool is great. We did not eat at the hotel. A taxi to the station or into town is about 5e and its 2or3e into Lisbon.
“definite four stars and would return again!”
This is a small botique hotel in the Baixa district which is convenient to the trolleys, trams and Lisboa Metro....2 short blocks away. The area is busy during the day and quiet but safe at night. This location is great for those who do a lot during the day and want to stop by the room to drop off shopping items or freshen up before dinner. Taxis and also all over and easy to reach. The hotel is also near the Rossio, Chiado and Barrio Alto neighborhoods. The hotel itself is small, about 3 or four floors with a small lobby and small restaurant. I booked a room with two double beds on the small size. The room itself was small but wonderfully decorated with clean lines and contemporary finishes. The bathroom was also very contemporary including an unusual mirrored door that would not close entirely....on purpose. Nice touch by the hotel when they presented us with a small fruit basket and mineral water. So, the room size can be on the small end...but we did not come to Lisbon to spend our days or evenings in the hotel. So, if you are the type who gets up early and returns late but loves a nice contemporary hotel with minimal but contemporary finishes, you will love this place. Again, the location was ten times better than staying up on Avenida Liberdade or some of the other concentrations of hotels.
“Lovely Hotel, Fantastic Location”
The hotel is 10 mins walk from town centre and great transport links to Lisbon. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was big, clean and we has an excellent buffet breakfast each morning. The pool isn't massive, but is more then adequate as the hotel has a very relaxing vibe. The separate kids pool helps!
“Good for families and a good choice if you like large hotels”
This place was fine - clean, well run, and frankly just as described on the website. It is about a 10 minute walk to town, but it seems that nearly all of the hotels in the area are in the city outskirts. The pool is nice, the ocean views, at least ours, were minimal though. The hotel is across the road from the ocean, and there's no beach that you can walk to (which is true of most hotels in the area). Overall, it was absolutely fine and we have no real complaints; we just don't generally stay in big soulless hotels like this, so it wasn't our favorite.
“Return trip to this hotel”
This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel and would certainly stay again. We had a junior suite which also has a kitchen so is great for a family.
“Can't wait to go back”
Loved our stay at the Villa Gale, Cascais. The staff was very nice and efficient. Very good value for the money and the small extra charge for the sea view was definitely worth it. Enjoyed the breakfast, especially the delicious fresh oranges and pineapple plus eggs made to order. The Cascais coast is beautiful and offers many varied activities for all ages. Hotel is across the street from the promenade that runs along the ocean.
“super holiday, fabulous location”
28 years ago my family moved to Cascais and lived there for 3 wonderful years. this was our first visit back to the area - a trip down memory lane. Obviously a great deal has changed in that time, more building, more roads, shops have changed, but the underlying ambience of Cascais and the whole area remains the same. Vila Gale Cascais was an ideal location, situated by the lighthouse between Cascais and the Boca do Inferno, both within easy walking distance. The coast road has been improved, widened and a cycle track added all the way to Guincho beach, making this a most pleasant area to spend time exploring. The restaurants in the centre of Cascais are still excellent value for money for authentic Portuguese cuisine. We hired a car and so were able to explore the exquisite Sintra Hills and Cabo da Roca. The views from the top of the Hills is breathtaking, whether viewed from Penina or the Moors Castle. We used the train to travel in to Lisbon along the coast, past Belem and the huge bridge over the River Tagus, and then walked round the Alfama and up to St Georges Castle. You get used to walking up and down a lot of hills in Portugal. We visited Guincho beach several times - it always was our favourite spot, and we have not changed our minds. The surrounding area is a national park and protected, providing a staggering raw natural beauty, waves crashing on to wide beach - utterly breathtaking.
“Cascais...little known sanctuary”
Fantastic hotel, lovely resort, extremely friendly people, great weather...can't say any more as i've run out of superlatives... but needless to say an excellent little Easter break.. :-)
“Great hotel in Cascais”
Very nice hotel for leasure winter vacation. Great winter sea view from the balcony. The bycicle road along the beach till Praya do Guincho starts from the hotel and city has free bycicle rental for a day. So you can pick up one at 11am and return back at 4pm. Hotels is about 15 min walk distance from Cascais center thus it's very quiet during the night but close to restraunts/transportation. Was suprised to find out that wifi is accessible in the corner of the room (with low signal but it worked). Wifi is provided by PTWifi so you can check rate for week. Rate per hour is crazy but for week it's acceptable. The only downside were breakfasts which are average.
