“Lovely stuff”

2 nights stay over a weekend. I chose this hotel after being unable to find a reasonably priced private room in a hostel. Turim offered a cheaper deal than all the private room ensuite hostel rooms I could find. Location - Easy to find if you can read a map adequately. Although we got done by an airport taxi driver - 25 euros (massive skinhead so we didnt argue). Nice central location - 3 mins to nearest Metro station. Metro travelcard for 3 days - 14 euros - travel sorted! You can walk to the coast and the 2 main squares within 15 mins anyway. Convenience shop 1 min walk left turn out of hotel - water, beer, sweets and other less important stuff. Safe area - 1 min walk from main city street - avenida da liberdade. Impressive aesthetically - lobby and restaurant seem more worthy of 3 or 4 star status. Complimentary breakfast perfect - buffet of quality croissants, bread, ham, cheese, cereal, unlimited coffee - nice start to each day. Our room seemed newly refurbished - again seemed 3/4 star - loads of towels, power shower, new TV, new electronic safe, though we did notice some older looking rooms on our floor (1st). Helpful and multilingual reception staff.

Area recommendations
Lovely restaurants and bars in Bairro Alto - reachable by tram (turn right out of hotel and its the tram that goes up the hill - takes 2 mins!) Belem is a required visit and Castelo Sao Jorge has good views, as does Se Catedral.

“Great location, tiny bathroom,dreadful breakfast”

The location was terrific - one block from the route of the airport bus, one block from the Metro and a train station, and from Restauradores Square where there are a number of good, relatively inexpensive restaurants. We stayed in a newly remodeled room, which was beautiful - all gleaming wood and tile. We had free WiFi in the room, which was a plus. The bathroom was beautiful, but not very functional. The shower is a tight squeeze for tall Americans We are both thin, but had trouble not hitting the water control lever with an elbow while showering and accidentally turning the water freezing cold or too hot, and if you accidentally dropped the soap (there was no soap dish), there was no room to bend over and pick it up. The included breakfast was pretty dreadful. The coffee from the do-it-yourself coffee machine was terrible (and we are not all that fussy), and no matter what combination of buttons we pushed, we could not come up with anything drinkable. The hot milk that came out of the machine had that funny, sweet powdered milk taste. The "orange juice" was some kind of watered-down Tang beverage. There was delicious bread, however, and butter and jam, and some extremely thin slices of ham and cheese were also provided. If you wanted a small container of yogurt, it was 1 Euro extra. All things considered, though, the convenient location, the free WiFi, and the good repair and cleanliness of the room made it a good choice for a budget stay in Lisbon.

Area recommendations
This area of the city was fine for budget travelers.

“Perfect location but needs renovation”

The hotel is located right in the downtown, surrounding is safe and full of sightseeings. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, but need a complete renovation. the old furniture fells the room with heavy and unpleasant smell. the absence of air-conditioning might challenge your stay there (however in September it was not such a problem). the breakfast (a continential one) is uneatable, however there are a lot of cafes around solve this problem. rooms have free wifi, which is very good. the price is low for such a good location, and the hotel will satisfy those who travel a lot during the day and need a hotel for sleep and shower.

Getting there
15 min by taxi, which is cheap (10-15 euros) or special airport bus (3.5 euros) of usual bus (#745, 83, 44). be careful with taxi drivers, who tend to charge more. the guy who took us from the airport insisted that we should pay twice more than was indicated, and siad that otherwise he wouldn't give us the baggage. it was very unpleasant.
Must see
gallery of exotic plants in Eduard VII garden Gulbekian's museum romantic castles of Sintra (30 in by train from cais do Sodre) fascinating Christ monastery in Tomar (100 km by train from Oriente) beatiful churches of Evora (130 km by train from Oriente)

“Good location but in need of refurbishment”

The hotel was clean and the staff polite and efficient and it is in a great location. However it is very shabby - cracks in the walls, plaster falling off in the bathroom and threadbare carpet . Towels were threadbare and holey as well. Breakfasts were suffiecient but very uninspiring.

“Good value for money”

Friendly hotel, Ideally located.Very nice staff. We went for short weekend break so wasnt looking for 5* hotel, so this suited us great. No it hasnt been renovated for a while, but it was very clean and staff were very helpful. It was central to everything. Would defintely use again. Loved the tram ride up to the Church of Saint Roch (Roque), well worth a visit & lovely lady tour guide.

“Value for Money”

We were looking for a downtown location with a private bathroom for a low price. This hotel fit the description best. The hotel has not been renovated for some time, so even though it has the amenities, do not expect them to be in good shape, although everything did work properly. The hotel was well cleaned, however it is difficult to make a room shine that has not been renovated in 30 years. I would stay there again, but I would only recommend it to those who are familiar with the European intercity standard.

Area recommendations
The neighborhoods "baixa" and "alta" are great for the old town. The expo area is also nice, it is better for those looking for modern accomodations.

“Basic accomodations”

This hotel has spent a lot of money remodeling the lobby and dining room, but the rooms are dark, spartan and dingy. The elevator is closet-size, which is fine, but it also has no interior door, meaning you can reach out and touch the passing wall of the shaft. Our room had two twin beds rather than a full, and the advertised wi-fi is more fiction than fact (it is available only in a side room off the lobby and is through a third party that was unable to process either of my U.S. credit cards, even after calling their support number). Luckily there is an Internet cafe a few blocks away. The wake-up call on the day of our departure (had to catch a flight) was also a half-hour late. Good thing we left extra time. That said, the location was great, the breakfasts decent and the staff professional.

“I will use the hotel again.”

It was the nearest hotel to the Hard Rock were I was going to meet others for the weekend: so for that reason I will use it again. Regards; Dixie.
