“A thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Marriot Lisbon.”
I can thoroughly recommend the Marriot Lisbon. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel and facilities were all very good and I would be very happy to return. The hotel was a short distance from the airport and a taxi won't break the bank. It cost us about 14 euros going to the hotel, however only the taxi from the hotel back to the airport was only 5! Be warned, some of the airport taxi's like to take the scenic route. If you chat to the concierge staff they will give you advice on places to visit. We bought a a two day, bus tour ticket for 15 euros. This took you around to places of interest where you can hop on or off as you choose. A taxi into Lisbon center was around 5-6 euros. If you can pay a little extra and have the breakfast and evening meal I would totally recommend doing so. The food is very good and the breakfast pre-paid is of excellent value and standard. However should you choose to opt out and pay as you go the meals are very pricey.
“Good value”
This was a good value hotel. The metro (Jardim Zooligico) was only a 7 minute walk past some cafe's. The hotel pool was good to have in the heat. The gym is limited with three running machines and acouple of resistance machines, but adequate. The rooms are good quality and the hotel staff friendly and helpful.
“Decent hotel, not great location and very expensive”
The hotel rooms were very comfortable with some of the best beds and pillows I have used around the world. Service varied massively in the hotel. Staff in the lobby bar area and concierge were great. Staff in the Citrus restaurant didn't seem to care about guests and were nearly always very slow (once I waited 20 minutes to get service and then I left) - a problem given it is the only restaurant. Prices in the hotel are very high for everything - basic beers Euro 5, Minimum single course meal price Euro 17 if you didn't want a Euro14 hamburger. The location is a bit outside the main city and surrounding walking areas are not pretty or useful. Though it is only 10 mins from the airport and you really do not hear the planes. However taxi's to the city and other parts of Lisbon were very efficient, plentiful and cheap (Euro 7.50 to down town Lisbon for a family of 4). The metro system is also very efficient, quick and cheap (8 Euro's for four day return tickets). Though the nearest Metro station to the hotel is about 15 minutes walk and down (up on the return journey) a very steep hill which is hard in the heat. The Executive lounge was decent, even though in the evening happy hours, the alcoholic drinks and good nibbles ran out quickly and were slow to be replenished. That said, for the lounge upgrade alone, this is worth it given the cost of food and drinks in the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was good. Lisbon was a very impressive city with much to do and see.
