“Metropole”
Good loction, but shady surroundings (at night, loud at times), very modest room.
“Would love to return”
Quirky, interesting hotel in the perfect area of Lisbon. Everything easily accessible & with very helpful, pleasant staff.
“Vantage Point for feeling pulse of Lisbon”
Spectacular location on the Rosso Square in the thin and thick of everything. Easy walk to major sites: Avenue Liberade, Praco de Commercio, Marquis of Pombal square, Edward V11 Park , tourist bus stops, railrway station, tram 28 in addition to restaurants, cafes, and bars. The staff were able to converse in english, were extermely polite, friendly and knowledgable about major attractions. The breakfast was more than adequate although montonous as there was no variation. On the downside the furniture in the room was somewhat shabby and could be upgraded. This is noyt unique to this hotel. As a westerner I have had challenges with the standards of the European hotels. Generally I find that the rooms are small, furniture worn, fixtures old, public areas small etc. Given however that as a tourist we spend most of our time sightseeing and out and about I place less emphasis on the finer requirements of the decor as long it the room is clean and the fixtures work. Another plus was the fact that there were english chanels on the TV. My decision to select this hotel was based on the reviews about the location and the fact that the staff were friendly and believe me I was not disappointed.!
“good location - few comforts”

“Excellent staff, difficult with a car”
The hotel is located at one of Lisbon's oldest and most central squares (you'll find that Lisbonites love squares--they seem to be everywhere). While the hotel itself was quite acceptable, finding it was a real adventure. Google Maps directions were essentially worthless and led us to the outskirts of town where finding someone who could both speak English and give us a general direction to pursue was a challenge. After several phone calls to the front desk as we drove, we finally ended up in the correct square. Even then difficult to find, as 4 square foot sign is partially occluded by trees. Finding parking was a signficant challenge, as the city was built when cars weren't a glimmer. Location very good, with several pleasant cafes outside the front door with good food and people watching. Passable breakfast buffet
“Fantastic location”
This hotel is in a fantastic location for sightseeing and being at the very heart of Lisbon. Some previous reviewers had said the square was noisy but we didn't find it excessively so. However, Room 59, with views over Rossio Square has THE squeakiest beds we have ever come across!!!! This was our first visit to Lisbon- the weather was fabulous and the city was great. We would recommend Lisbon and the Hotel Metropole- along with Alma Lusitana restaurant on the quayside.
“Excellent location, reasonable price, good breakfast!”
The hotel was average to good. Internet was free and the staff were friendly. I was expecting a slightly bigger or front of the building room but being placed at the back we avoided big noisy hoards of football funs singing. very easy access from the airport as the air bus stops just outside the hotel and you can pick it up across the square. Breakfast was decent, not an expansive range but plenty of scrambled eggs and bacon, rolls, jams, marmalade, honey and small croissants. The service was prompt and friendly. The reception staff was helpful with organizing our day trip out of town and gave us directions to where we needed to go. They spoke decent English, French and Spanish. Possibly other languages but I did not come across them doing so. all in all a very positive experience.
“Great city.”
We had to change 2 times the room, first room had bad odoor, second room was next to construction to noisy,3th room perfect with great view to Rossio & castelo san jorge. They are remodeling the building next to the hotel so be aware of noise early in the morning(Hammering). Breakfast buffet is good scramble eggs, bacon, yogurt, cereals, assorted breads & marmelades, coffee & tea.
“Lisbon's hidden gem”
We were made to feel very comfortable from the first moment we pulled up in the taxi. The doorman was experienced and welcoming. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful throughout our stay. They were all fluent in english and knowledgeable about the city, transportation, and the excursions we planned through expedia. The breakfast was great with an array of fresh fruit, eggs, yogurt, cereal, jellies, breads, & meats. It was such a pleasure coming back to the hotel after a long day out exploring. It was located in the city of Rossio in the middle of where you really want to be. It was a perfect location to go in any direction walking or if you wanted to take the train it was just around the corner or if you wanted to take the metro it was just across the street. We stayed for a week and wish we could have stayed longer. The staff there were just the best you could ask for, so friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to any one who wanted to get that true european experience.
“Run down place somehow..”
Booked at the metropole to be in Lisbon center. The location is unbeatable. Unfortunately, the hotel itself is quite run down : bed mattresses must be as old as I am, room has little equipment, ditto for bath amenities,etc.. Not a good value for money is your criteria is not location only.
