“If there's a hotel with a better view in Lisbon let me know”

I previously stayed at Lisbon's Hotel Chiado, then the Regency Chiado as the shower curtains still disclose (!), in 2007. Then, I had a standard room which was fine, but his time, I'm very glad I went for the Expedia special offer on the premium room. These rooms have the sun-terraces facing the Castelo on the opposite hill, one of the most knock-out of Lisbon's many knock-out views, and the most iconic. The rooms are comfortable "basic 4 star", some frills omitted but nothing missing that I really missed. The decor is individual, definitely boutique hotel not chain hotel, although the public spaces are more individual than the rooms (those views aside!). The room service and bar food service is basic, but the actual food is high quality. Service was fine overall, with particularly high marks to the front desk for restaurant bookings, advice etc. As the title of my review indicates, I don't know of a Lisbon hotel with better views - so it's helpful that the Hotel Chiado is well up to scratch in other ways. You can't beat the Chiado district for hipness, convenience and transport connections. Would I stay elsewhere in Lisbon? Yes. But i would return to the Hotel Chiado at least one time in every two, especially if the deal on a premium room is this keen.

Area recommendations
Do not miss the Graca miradour (viewpoint). It's one of many but probably the best overall view in the opposite direction to the Hotel Chiado. Face up to a stiff walk uphill past the Castelo if the tram is too crowded - it usually is. (But walking west past the Largo de Chiado may enable you to pick up the tram before it gets too full).
When to go
Pretty much any time. Lisbon has a strong chance of fine weather almost any time of year - I have been there on sunny warm days in February. That said, there are individual rainy days mostly in the winter, but as far as I have seen, not very many extended wet spells. Also, it's not usually too hot even in July, and humidity is usually moderate.
Getting around
Lisbon is one of the hilliest, steepest cities in Europe - be prepared. Taxis are relatively cheap; trams are often crowded. If the Metro goes where you need, it's great. Be careful with Metro day tickets - they cover buses but, it appears, not trams, nor the scattering of funicular elevators which can be so welcome when, at the end of a footslogging though fascinating day, you find yourself at the bottom of the hill, and your hotel at the top!
Must see
The Castelo (castle) on the hill. The Discoveries monument at Belem (Tram 15). The Gulbenkian Museum, best small art museum in Europe and perhaps the world. If you have time, take the boat across the harbour and a bus to the Cristo Rei statue (lookalike of the Rio de Janeiro one). This will take a whole day if you return by bus & boat. It could be fun to return by taxi across the other lookalike, a bridge that strongly resembles San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.
Dining
Lisbon probably has more restaurants with views than any other city anywhere. Some recommendations: Via Graca (get the hotel to book or do your research as despite the amazing view it's tricky to find this place), Terraco in the Tivoli hotel, Tagide near the Hotel Chiado, the restaurant at the Hotel Mundial.

“Nice hotel at a great location with a spectacular view of old Lisbon and the Castle”

A very pleasant and modernized hotel with nice rooms and spectacular views of old Lisbon. Convenient to most sights and entertainment areas. Buffet breakfast has a good selection of fruit, dairy, cheeses, meats and breads. Great for a romantic getaway or exploration of old Lisbon.

Bad o.k., asiatisches Design in Möbeln etc.
