“Everything a budget hotel should be”
I was expecting something grubby and shabby, but was totally surprised. My room was basic, but comfortable. It was cleaned well everyday - to the extent that the domestic staff folded my pyjamas and put them under my pillow. The reception staff weren't over friendly (as a English man I destest over familiarity anyway) but provided polite answers to all my questions in good English. It wasn't silent outside - but then what city is? I had no problem sleeping until 9:00 in the morning. The location is perfect. Lisbon is an easy city to navigate anyway, but I was really happy to be in the Barrio Alto, close to good bars and restaurants, close to Rossio Square, close to the praca do comercio. I've stayed further out on previous trips, but this was much better. One word of warning, Lisbon and by extension, the Barrio Alto is very steep with many steps and hill climbs. If this is something you might struggle with, well, Lisbon may not be for you. Yes, breakfast was bad. I go on holiday to eat well, so I had to get out of the hotel to do that. A decent coffee can be bought in Lisbon for 80 cents, so it wasn't an issue for me. If you're reading the other reviews of this hotel, you'll no doubt be put off. If you're like me and don't expect five star service for a budget price, you'll be fine. You get what you pay for though and considering the cheap price of this hotel, it delivered above what I was expecting. Good for the price and location can't be beaten.
“Lisbon Lovers”
Some of the rooms seem small by american standards, but they were comfortable and clean and the air conditioning worked well. Couldn't have asked for a more convenient location to everything in the historical district and all local transportation.
“hotel americano di lisbona”
ottimo hotel, posizione eccezionale, pulizia ottima, consigliatissimo
