This was one of the best hotel experiences I've had, and my husband has said the same. The hotel is charming, beautifully done and well appointed with incredibly spacious rooms. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. The breakfast is very good with a enough variety to satisfy most tastes/diets. The tea/happy hour plus the complimentary port in the rooms is a very nice touch. My only complaint is the lack of workout room, but this is understandable given the limitations of the footprint of the hotel due to age/time of construction. Great hotel and will definitely stay there again when in Lisbon.
When I booked this hostel for one night for 13 euro (breakfast included), my sister told me not to go there. It's suspiciously cheap. I didn't care, because it was only one night. Now I wish, it had been more! I spent a wonderful time in the hostel with openminded people from all over the world, just sitting in the garden that belongs to this hostel, ate a very good breakfast, relaxed before the long trip back home. I strongly recommend staying at the Go Hostel Lisbon!!!
Our apartment was at the heart of Baixa. Its a block from the metro and walking distance to major landmarks. Lot's of cafes, restaurants and shops in the area. Apartment was fresh, roomy, bright and quiet. We liked that it was recently refurbished; kitchen was modern with new appliances. It felt like home away from home.
The Santa Justa is in an old building at the heart of the Baixa, which makes it equidistant from the Barrio Alto and the Alfama.........a short but stiff climb to both if you are on foot. Inside the hotel is modern and pleasingly designed....not too functional but not over the top. Staff amazingly helpful and friendly; free wi-fi and free mini-bar plus welcoming bottle of port are a nice touch. Can't really fault it. Didn't eat there, and the restaurants in the nearby Baixa streets aren't up too much.
The hotel went out of its way to take care of us. The service was excellent, from a complimentary fruit dish to a complimentary bottle of champagne. The hotel is ideally situated and you can walk to many of the most important tourist sites. My only minor complaints are that I could occassionally hear the traffic (through the double windows) and you could sometimes feel the slight vibrations from trains entering the next door train station. Besides that, a great place that we will be returning to when we return to Lisbon.
The hotel staff could not be more helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel is in an excellent central location and if you have a car, the hotel staff will provide assistance and information for the Car Park. There are tours which leave regularly from the square and there are two 'Fado' restaurants within walking distance where you can be entertained with this typical Portuguese music over a good meal. The reception area does not do justice to the hotel. The decor is quirky and worth noting - every chair in the restaurant is a different design. I am not too sure that I liked too much the 'Do not Disturb' Sign on the bedroom door which said simply 'Get Lost' ! However just a minor point for a very pleasant stay; I would definitely come back.
My friends and I (4 women) stayed at the hotel in late April. First impression is that it looks very old from the outside. Once we went in, it was very impressive. Beautiful lobby with comfortable sitting area and a lovely dining room where breakfast was served. Dinner is served in a beautiful dining room in the palace right across the street. The staff could not have been more accommodating and polite. They also all spoke English very well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
