“home away from home”
Can't say enough positive things about the hotel and its staff --the staff were professional, friendly and very helpful---the hotel was clean, modern and spacious--the breakfast was plentiful and delicious; the only drawback was the location---it was a steep walk in a run-down neighborhood---in spite of that, I would still recommend it to friends and I would return to the Belver Hotel it if I were to go back to Lisbon.
“Take a chance”
When we first arrived at the Belver Principe, I was not excited about the neighborhood. Then we started walking, It was within walking distance of the main avenue, Libertade, and also within walking distance to great restaurants and the best "natural" fado in Lisboa. The neighborhood is old, but then so is Lisboa. I would stay at the hotel again. The staff was very accomodating and the breakfast was lovely.
“Not what I expected”
I've stayed in worse places in Europe. At least there was some *attempt* at modern style, and the room wasn't microscopic. However, I was disappointed with location and maintenance. The hotel is walking distance from very good restaurants and bars in the residential Barrio Alto, but it's not as convenient to the Metro as it looks on a map, which I found I needed to get anywhere else. Lisbon is extremely hilly, so what looks like a nice stroll on the map may in fact be quite a hike uphill. The block the hotel is located on is not nice, with many abandoned buildings and kids who like to throw water balloons on guests at the hotel entrance. My room had several burned-out bulbs. The room could only be darkened with metal shutters that did not work properly (one did not open all the way and the other would not close.) The mini-fridge was very loud. There is no wi-fi and the ethernet cable they gave me had broken plugs at both ends. The doors use a huge metal key that you must leave at the desk when you leave. They locks are very loud; your neighbors will wake you up coming and going. The bathmat was taken but not replaced one day. In short, I was expecting a nice, modern hotel in a good location. That is not what this is. I will pay more to stay at the Barrio Alto Hotel next time.
“Not as accessible as others - you need to be able to climb a hill.”
A very clean and well-managed hotel with an excellent breakfast included in the price. The location is not picturesque and a little off the beaten path. There are many more attractive neighborhoods in which to stay in Lisbon. But if you don't mind climbing the hill to the Principe Real area, or climbing the hill from Avenida da Liberdade to the hotel, it's an OK place to stay.
“Good quiet hotel in the old part of town”
The hotel was in quiet location, convenient for restaurants and shops. Set on a hill with cobbled streets, take flat comfortable shoes if walking. I was only there for 1 night, but it provided everything I needed - good sized room, clean, with nice bathroom.
A recommander...
