“Nice small hotel.”

A nice hotel on a quiet street which is a short walk from Kennedy Park, and the heart of Miras Flores.

Area recommendations
I would recommend Miras Flores because it has great restaurants and shopping.

“I will come back again when in LIMA”

I will definitevely come back to this nice "boutique hotel". The location is great (heart of Miraflores on a side street, which makes it quiet). It is not luxurious but is comfortable and the service is friendly and warm (make you feel at home)

“Great boutique hotel”

Casa San Martin was a great choice for us. A simple, clean, well appointed room with a cooked to order breakfast each morning. Within a few blocks of Larcomar, a large shopping and dining area. Staff was friendly and the neighborhood was safe and nice.

Area recommendations
I would recommend staying in Miraflores. Beautiful part of the city with friendly people.

“Very friendly service”

This hotel is in an excellent location, 10 minutes walk to Parque Kennedy and 10 minutes from the waterfront. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful with everything, from tourist information and recommendations for sightseeing to a very efficient taxi service from the hotel. The rooms were clean, although a little cold, but an extra alpaca blanket was provided and I slept very well as the hotel is very quiet. This hotel is a very good option for visitors to Lima.

“Struck Gold”

I struck gold sellecting this small boutique hotel - I had nothing arranged for my 14 days in Peru in January 2010 but I knew where I wanted to go and where I wanted to stay. I told Lidia this and she took it upon herself to phone and email in Spanish to book my hotels and all travel including my flight over the Nazca Lines without charge - In so doing she took away all the stress and day I would have wasted doing it myself. Breakfast was prepared for me personally - eggs and the like - my whole experience in the hotel was like living at home - the hospitality was exceptional and front desk staff was equal to any 5 star so far as helpfulness was concerned. The rooms were traditional and if a little musty added to the character and homely feeling of the hotel which is in a quiet side street off a main shopping street in Miraflores area. I am sorry I did not spend more time in Lima and may well go back some day.

Area recommendations
Miraflores because it is the most Westernised area with shops and eating places and most of the better hotels - It is also much less indigenous and has a lesser rate of crime than other parts of the capital. Apart from tourists, downtown Lima seemed to be the business area with official buildings and high proflle armed troops at strategic points. Some great restaurants but I don't think I would hang around central Lima at night which is not the case in Mira flores.

“Will certainly return”

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although there was no air conditioning, I was provided with a ventilator, which was just fine. The neighborhood is safe an the hotel is convenient to Miraflores restaurants, the Malecon (waterfont) and the beach below. Taxi to the center are easy to get (agree on price beforehand.). Nearby Barranco is a delightful walk away (along the Malecon), although a taxi can be hailed .. The Rosa Nautica bar and restaurant below is a must-see; it's near the beach, has a lovely view and drinks aren't too expensive at the bar. Taxis from the hotel to the airport can be arranged for a competitive price. Overall, Limans are so friendly it's worth visiting Lima for that alone.

When to go
For Lima, January to March is ideal; it's the dry season. It is, however, rather hot.
Getting around
Taxis are worth it, but you do have to bargain. Speaking Spanish helps. Sit next to the driver and chat with him; it's a great way to learn more about the place. Buses are not very convenient, though very cheap. For one, they are much too crowded, and they are rather slow.
Must see
without a doubt, the San Francisco Convent. You have a take a tour, but it's fascinating. Also, they sell handicrafts there. The Santo Domingo Church and the Cathedral are lovely. The Museum of the Inquisition (tour obligatory) is interesting. The Larco and Archeological Museums (both is Pueblo Libre, a taxi ride away from center) are spectacular. The Museo de Oro was exhibiting its best pieces at the Larcomar Shopping Mall in Miraflores during my stay; excellent, if a bit touristy.
Shopping
Best shopping is downtown. Some bargaining is possible. The Larco museum has lovely reproductions of originals. T-shirts are real cheap.
Dining
Peruvian food is delightful, but you do get tired of Ceviche. Miraflores has a wide variety of restaurants, usually rather good. Don't expect extraordinary pizza or pasta, but fruit and fruit juices are truly sublime. Try Mango, Maracuya, Guava (rather rare) and Chirimoya (more expensive, but worth it).
Outdoors or beach
Don't expect great beaches in the Lima area itself. Many are polluted, although if you see locals plunge in, it's clear it won't kill you. Do expect mammoth waves which will literally knock you off your feet, though. The Miraflores Beach is quite accessible. You do have to watch your belongings, but you can leave them if you swim nearby. Overall, the rumours about insecurity seem greatly exaggerated. Just be careful, as you'd be in most other places.

“Adequate hotel”

This is a small hotel near the downtown area of Miraflores. It is an adequate but not spectacular hotel. The rooms are small and comfortable. The breakfast is o.k.

Area:

Miraflores, Peru: The man-made landmarks of Miraflores--its gleaming towers, upscale shops, and foreign embassies--are no match for its natural beauty. Here, jagged cliffs give way to the Pacific. Inhabited since ancient times, Miraflores is home to Huaca Pucclana, once an administrative hub of activity built around 500 AD. Nowadays, the buzz has moved south to the parks along El Malecón and Larcomar mall.
