“A Convenient Stay”

We had a little trouble finding the hotel due to construction in the neighborhood, but once there it was a good location. There was a park across the street and the main downtown area was a few blocks away. The room itself was modest, a little cramped and had the customary separate beds. The facilities were clean and well taken care of. We enjoyed a quiet night's sleep even though the commuter train line was just behind the hotel.

Area recommendations
The Hotel Temple Ponferrada is conveniently located to the castle and old town. We walked there on a hot day without stressing. The bridge you cross has a very nice view of the river and the Iron Bridge from which the town takes its name. The castle is interesting but not completely restored and can be a little boring. The collection of items from medieval times in the library has some real gems. We had dinner at Las Cuadras, just above the castle in the old city and we can highly recommend it. We had the bacalao and the botilla, both local specialties.

“odd experience”

the hotel is right next to the train station - so a short distance from the main town and castle etc - but it just felt quite unfriednly and was our only mediocre breakfast/view from room experience of a month long trip

“not as advertised and unfriendly”

Had to wait for check in at 2.30pm Charged extra for 'wifi' and parking motorcycle,10+ euros per 24 hours. Gym. was appalling, one broken crosstrainer one barbell with no weights ! nothing else.I feel that this booking was made under false pretences.

be careful with your requirements and expectations. Cafe Alaska, nearby, friendly good coffee and free internet wifi
