Wonderful hotel, best we have ever stayed in (and we have stayed in a lot). The staff were a delight, helpful, courteous without being intrusive.
The rooms were just right, spotlessly clean, fabulous shower and comfortable bed.
Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
This villa was converted into a hotel about 28 years ago and the owners are upgrading some rooms. Public rooms have original frescoes ceilings and marble floors. Dining on either the terrace overlooking the lake or in the richly decorated dining room was a memorable experience. The set dinner menu represented better value than restaurants in Lecco and should not be missed.
We booked the hotel based on the reviews and the description on Expedia website. We booked a double room for a stay at Lecco. On arriving we checked in and were given a twin room. We explained we booked a double room, their response was to push two beds together. Which would have been fine had there not still been a gap between two beds to fall down and beds would slide apart through the night. We spoke to stuff about changing to a room with a double bed and were told no rooms were available even though we saw no other guests and knew other room next to us with a double bed was empty. The room we were given was next to communal kitchen and used by people staying upstairs and was very noisy as no consideration was given to guest staying next to it.
Also had to go through the kitchen to the bathroom.
The booking included a continent breakfast, however it lacked any choice: there was no bread, butter, cheese, spreads, jams, continental meats, pastries. Went to supermarket and bought it for ourselves. Also there was lacking crockery and no kettle or toaster. When spoke with staff about kettle, we were told to microwave water.
Would have been good to know about the church bells ringing.
Had we known all of this prior to booking, we would not have chosen to stay here and feel the hotel description was misleading and incorrect. We have stayed at numerous hotels and apartments around the world of all styles and types, however this has been our the biggest disappointment so far.
A dramatic, fjordlike setting below steep mountain cliffs adds much to this commercial town on the eastern 'leg' of Lake Como, often known as the Lago di Lecco. It's a fine excursion base served by cable-car. The town is reached by a fortified medieval bridge over the River Adda, the lake's sole outflow. Villa Manzoni (now a museum) was the birthplace of 19th-century Italian novelist Alessandro Manzoni.
