“Sands at Half Term”
We selected the Sands through the mostly positive reviews, and were not disappointed. Our superior 1 bed apartment was spacious and well equiped. There was a double bedroom, pull down double bed in the lounge, and a separate double sofa-bed. The room was airy with a nice pitched roof, and the terrace opened out onto one of many pools, with a views over the sea. The resort has it's own lagoon and beach, and sits next to the beach proper. It's in a fairly quiet location about 10mins walk from the centre of the resort. The hotel was well maintained and our room cleaned daily, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The only slight disappointment was the quality of food in the main restaurant, where the buffet was run-of-the-mill, so would not recommend booking the inclusive meals option. There are however, plenty of decent, good value restaurants within 10-15 mins walk. The 2 on-site bars were good, but there are also plenty in the resort if you get bored! A hire car is not necessary, but useful if you want to explore the island without taking an organised tour.
“Great Time”
Great time had, nothing to moan about. Did not try the onsite restaurant but the Mai Tai pool bar was great. Loads of places to eat in town. We stayed at the beach front appat which were great and had enough room for a family of 4.
“I am not impressed, some average.”
We stay in part of resort cassa Verde. This part is the worst part in This resort. Neighbourhood around the pool is not clean and the pool looks very decrepit but I cannot say for the other pools. The furniture is decrepit especially main bed which is smal size and mattress is worn out. The rest of is OK.
“Nice Resort”
Resort has its own private beach but it is man made and very small. There are better beaches a few minutes walk away, the closest is small and quiet. Another beach a few minutes further down the coaast is bigger and more lively with cafes and restaurants close by. This beach also has activities like windsurfing and surfing.
“Very Well Pleased”
We almost didn't stay at this Apartment complex because someone gave it a bad review. That would have been a real shame. We could not have picked a better place to spend our 40th anniversary. We have two time shares and we are spoiled and stay in apartments whenever possible. The maintenance activities and attitude of the staff reminded us of staying at a four star resort. The one thing I would caution you. We are view freaks. We picked the Sands Beach Front apartment for the view. When we arrived we did not have a view. I called the front desk and told the clerk our dilema and she immediately moved us to an apartment with a view. The first one had just recently been remodeled. We were happier in the older one with the view. It was still very clean and comfortable. If you have small children you will want a first floor without the view of the ocean. You do sit right on a private beach on a private lagoon perfect for small children. Breakfast was a great bargain at 6 Euro for a complete English or European breakfast. as far as the dinner buffet it was very nice and reasonably priced. I don't partucularly like buffet style dining. It is a short walk 3 - 5 blocks to many nice restaurants. Also the bus to Arrocife ,the capital city, was short walk 2 blocks and less than 2 Euro a person. It runs every 20-30 minutes depending on the day of the week. We had a great time shopping in Arrocife.
“Very big. Very clean.”
This was the largest cottage we'ver ever had. It was very clean and everything worked. However, there was no air conditioning and the temperature was in the mid-nineties! We had to rent a fan for the week. The complex is very family oriented with activites for both adults and kids. But the atmosphere was very contrived because all there is is lava. The grass was artificial carpeting and the cactus needed irrigated. The beach, however, was very nice, with white sand.
“lovely holiday, will defo go back”
we had twofabulous weeks. the apartments were very nice, friendly staff, great location and great facilities. as a young couple the kiddies club was a little annoying but we'd just choose to go outside summer holidays in future and did have a thoroughly good time. I would defo recommend to others to go hereof you are looking for a relaxing time in the sun. the Mao tai bar swimming pool was lovely as was the bar. a nice touch was the films plated by the hotel in all apartments, much better than watching the news when getting ready to go out. the supermarket on site was great and very reasonable and sold everything we needed. can't wait to go back.
“Sands Beach May half term holiday”
We had a great time. The hotel is a collection of apartments round seven separate pools of which one is a sandy lagoon next to the sea. It wasn't very busy which was nice for us slightly older people, but those that were there were mainly British with young families. Reception provided anything we needed quickly with no fuss. The onsite supermaket had everything you could need. We didn't use the hotel restaurant, but the menu looked good. There are lots of restaurants and shops a short 10-15 minute walk away. Nice walks along the beach and terrific windsurfing. There was a good strong wind every day. There's a bay where the windsurfing is OK for beginners and intermediates and then if you go out to sea you get blown away !!!! It costs 20 euros for an hour but cheaper if you windsurf longer. Lessons are available. We didn't see a lot of nightlife, but then we weren't looking for it. We will go back again and again for sure.
“needs work”
The hotel has clearly not been maintained. The pools were in poor shape, the sofas had tears in the fabric, the mattresses and box springs were collapsed. The kitchenettes were poorly stocked for cooking and timer on the oven didn't work. One can see how the resort must have been nice twenty years ago...the staff was put out to be helpful. The nicest staff member was the masseuse, and she was a substitute.
“A return trip”
We returned to sands Beach this year having been before in 2007. It remains a great resort as long as you book beachfront accomodation. Hacienda restuarant food not great but lots of restaurants etc very close by. Beautiful coast line, clean villas, well kept surroundings - lovely easy stay for us including three late teens.
