“Will definitely return in 2012.”
We stayed for 7 nights in a standard double room in early December 2011. This was a hastily arranged first visit to Lanzarotte and could not have asked for a better location. Our room (243) was very comfortable although perhaps a little “tired”, but it did have a great view from the terrace. Only real negative was the shower curtain - who uses these in 2011? – but on a lighter note it did give me the opportunity to flood the bathroom floor (more than once). Unlike some other reviewers we found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, and would single out “Patricia” from the pool service area and the tour of the hotel for particular praise. The buffet breakfast – excellent. The evening meal buffet on our first night was not so good and rather expensive, but dinner buffets everywhere are invariably not of the best quality, so we eat out for the remainder of our stay in severalrestaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. We went to Lanzarotte for a break in which we intended to simply relax, and the excellent pool area enabled to do just that. In the evening we enjoyed the entertainment in the bar area, which was of a surprisingly high quality. All in all we were very satisfied customers, and have already decided we will make a return visit in 2012.
“So special!”
We booked the hotel last minute and were a bit worried that the reviews made it sound slightly dated. When we got there we were absolutely delighted and the hotel had so much character. The welcome we got upon arrival was great and the staff were always really helpful. As for the view from the room, it was breath-taking. Then for breakfast, where do I begin! There was every type of food you could have possibly wanted and more. I would highly recommend this hotel.
“Great Hotel for Families in Lanzarote”
We enjoyed our trip to the Grand Melia. The weather was iffy and very windy, but the beach was nice and the pool was pretty (very cold salt water pool). We stayed in a junior suite that was very comfortable and large, with a view- great for a family with 2 little kids. We had a nice king sized bed that was very comfortable. They had a fantastic breakfast buffet. We did the dinner a couple of nights and it was good but very expensive. I would suggest going from May-Sept (April was a little chilly) and there are plenty of resaurants along the boardwalk and in town 5-10 min walk that had good food at reasonable prices for lunch and dinner. A nice low key family vacation- but a week was plenty.
“A holiday hotel with high standards”
As a holiday hotel, the Gran Melia Salinas deserves its five star rating. Its 1970s design is turning into something of a classic. The interior semi-tropical atrium gardens, numerous works of art, a stunning outdoor salt-water pool and surrounding outdoor gardens are all stunning. It is indeed a special place. Our standard room was very well-appointed - everything worked, the room was kept spotless and the balcony was a sheltered sun-trap. Plants abound on roof tops, in special beds along windows and balconies. Most of the hotel faces south overlooking the pool, sandy beach and the ocean. Staff are numerous, friendly and approachable. The buffet breakfasts and evening meals (an excellent half-board deal) were a delight and offered a very wide choice of beautifully prepared european-style food. Nowhere is perfect and some may find the evening floor shows low on excitement and the daily activities such as cooking and dancing lessons are very low-key. The hotel is suitable for all ages although disabled access is sub-standard. Renting a car is probably the best way to see the island and worked well for us. Most roads are surprisingly good.
“Relaxing December break by the sea”
The hotel was comfortable and well run. We had rooms overlooking the pool and beach, with cleverly designed private balconies. We enjoyed the swimming both in the enormous pool and in the sea - from a gently shelving sandy beach. There was usually a brisk wind off the sea but it was still usually sunbathing weather. We also made good use of the well-equppiepd gym and the free tennis courts. The hotel and neighbourhood were very quiet, which suited us. Meals offered a lot of choice and good quality of food.
“Good deal”
On a deal, this was a great place to stay. However, the resort was peaceful at that time of year (feb), the weather was great, the sea warm enough to swim in, so if asked to pay full price I'd find any other accomodation just as satisfactory.
“Great service, great hotel but only book a master suite!”
I upgraded to a Master Suite for a very reasonable price and would reccommend others do the same. Service was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Gym needs some improvement. Pools were clean and hardly anyone else used either of them while I was staying.
“Master Suite or Better”
We initially booked this hotel with the standard room. We had to change to the master suite, as the standard rooms are sub par. This hotel is only good when you book a room that is the master suite or better.
“Iconic Hotel”
A stunning, luxurious hotel built around a tropical rainforest. complete with palm trees , vines and flowing streams. Most rooms have a full seaview and are very clean & well appointed. The food & service are excellent: the breakfasts were superb-a great place for a quiet, relaxing week. Downside ? All entertainment begins at 10.00pm and satellite TV channels are limited.
