Safe and comfortable

Pros: Its location and outside appearance are second to none.
Cons: CARPETS ... please clean them! A little TLC would make a big difference.
Location: Blackpool ... what more needs to be said!
Having seen negative reviews about the hotel I was a little worried about what to expect, however, my experience wasn't that bad at all. The first thing to remember is, it is only a 2 star hotel, therefore don't expect everything to be prefect (as it isn't). The hotel looks grand from the outside, this continues through the Entrance and lounge area. Sadly once you get into the corridors down to the rooms it starts to look not quite as good. The most obvious problem is the carpets, they are filthy! Unfortunately Blue/Green carpets need cleaning frequently sadly they evidently aren't and are full of stains. Sadly the carpets in the room were also stained and marked as well. It was also pretty obvious the hotel has suffered from leaks with pealing/stained wallpaper as well as chipped and cracked paint work. Thankfully the room was okay and apart from the fact the bed linens don't actually fit the bed properly I was happy with it in general. In conclusion the hotel isn't perfect but it felt friendly, safe and reasonably comfortable. I would stay again, as long as I didn't pay too much!

Disgusting - nothing Grand about it

I booked into this "grand" looking building the other day whilst down for a funeral. I was excited about staying here as it was a "grand" building with classic features. Upon entering the hotel through a conservatory door littered by smokers and cigarette ends, I spoke to the receptionist a cheerful girl who was only too pleased to help. As she was checking me in, a lady asked her a question, she muttered under her breath "for god sake, can't she see I'm busy" - I was taken aback by this however kept smiling as we got our room key and made our way to the room. As we left the reception, the hotel in itself was dirty, unkempt and smelled of dampness. The lift barely worked although it got us to the floor required. As we entered the room, the room was disgusting, dirty and smelled like an ashtray and "dirty mop" with paint peeling off the ceiling and very worn and torn funiture the view was of extractor fan from the kitchen. When I returned to the reception area to raise my concerns the receptionist aggressively pointed to a sign stating that it was a 2 star hotel and what do I expect ? I was disgusted by this approach and attitude and demanded a refund to which I was Informed I could only get through Expedia ! Overall rating - 10 !

Grand Metropole Blackpool extremely disappointed

My wife and I have used this hotel for 12 years and this was our most disappointing stay ever, the room 146 stank of smoke obviously from the previous occupants and had not been cleaned properly, the frosted glass? windows had been left open to overlook a flat roof covered in debris which also added to the smell. We had to buy an air freshener for this room. It was so obvious this hotel needs to upgrade it`s housekeeping urgently. We complained and even filled in the comments card with our complaint and am still awaiting reply. Don`t think we`ll be back.

Cons: Cleanliness and staff to be more positive and smile at the check in desk.
When we arrived the the staff who checked us in was miserable and not very friendly . The room that we where allocated smelt very unpleasant although the windows had been left opened we could still smell a very strong odour of stale cigarette smoke and there was also an ashtray in the room. On the front of the door it did have a smoking sign so I presume that guest are allowed to smoke in the rooms if I would of known this I would not have booked this hotel as I am a non smoker. Perhaps it would be an idea to inform potential clients. The breakfast at the hotel was did not taste good it was the worst breakfast we have ever had when staying at bed and breakfast. The cleanliness of the hotel leaves a lot to. Be desired the windowsills on the corridors where full of dust and dead flies. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that it was in a great location for us but, I won't be going back.

Breakfast and room were lovely. Only minor complaints were small cracks on the ceiling, and being given dirty towels on the second day. That aside, the hotel was lovely and friendly, and an ideal location for getting around Blackpool itself.

noisy situation

Pros: Nice clean sheets and bath towels.
Cons: Double glazing, air conditioning and clean windows that actually open fully. Control of who is entering the dining room and sitting where.
Location: Very central, close to all amenities and travel.
We tried to check in a bit early but receptionist didn't bother to check if room was ready, she just told us to come back after 3pm. We asked if we could leave a small overnight bag, but again no help offered simply told we could leave it in the lounge but they could not accept responsibility for it. The room was clean and comfortable apart from the fact the outside temperature was 28C and the inside temperature wasn't far off that as the window would only permit an opening of about 3 inches. The windows were filthy and we were glad we had not paid extra for a sea view. We were in room 225 which overlooked the rear of the hotel and also a noisy bar and a night club which on our mid week booking kept us awake with its music and customers till gone 3am!!!! I wish we had not bothered with the breakfast, with two cereals to chose from, overcooked hot food items and stacks of very floppy toast, juices and choice of hot drinks.

A terrible hotel.The smell hits you as you walk through the door.Pleasant enough reception staff and location ok,but that's as far as it goes.Everywhere is tatty and filthy.Not a cleaner in site,food left on floors for the 2 nights we were there.As for the room,sea view but windows were filthy,balcony but doors sealed up and pigeons nesting on them and full of cig dimps.Furniture,bed,decor,flooring all very tatty and old.Dining room at breakfast,tables wiped down but left soaking wet,food on floors from last nights meals,filthy windows and chills,food at best average.The hotel just sums up Blackpool really.The new promenade is great but when the accommodation around is so poor nobody will stay to use it.

This is our worst ever hotel experience. The site description says "Climate control.." without saying that it completely relies on nature and the opening of a window onto a busy thoroughfare across from a late night rock music venue. Management would not offer a room change (although it did for another of our group). Our room had been broken into, previously, as attested by the badly broken door frame in the lock area. The TV is an 80s vintage 4:3 20" CRT with a remote whose DEAD batteries were held in by electrical tape. The remote was replaced so we could see the 4:3 chopped picture of the 7 local channels provided. The bathroom door latch didn't work. The paper on the ceiling was peeling. We have photos and could go on.
