As we had arrived just before official check in time (3pm), and our room wasn't ready, we were given complimentary drinks which we took in the Breeze Bar, we took this opportunity to take in the stunning views which surround the hotel. We were then pleasantly surprised to receive a room upgrade...
The grounds of the hotel are very pretty, lots of water features, two swimming pools and a rock pool to relax by. We even saw Eagles feeding from the sea!
The hotel was very well maintained and all the staff very friendly. Our Room was a good size, well equiped, comfortable, housekeeping of a high standard, everything you would expect to find in a five star hotel. However, if like me you tend to over pack, maybe take a few extra coat hangers, clothes storage was limited.
We chose to have the room service breakfast, which was good value, generous portions with a good selection of choices. We noticed that not many people ate in the hotel in the evening, maybe this was due to menu options and five star prices. We found a local restaurant by the harbour which also offered shuttle bus back to hotel in the evening.
On the days we decided to explore the island, Reception arranged taxis for us, which arrived within a few minutes and fares were confirmed in advance of our trip.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ambong Ambong. The location in the jungle is wonderful with great views. Rooms very comfortable and well maintained. The staff at the hotel were wonderful - friendly and very helpful. While the climb up the hill can be a challenge it is also part of the appeal, besides there is always a driver available for trips up and down. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday.
The hotel is very big and nice with nice decoration. We can easily find it on the road as it is located nearly the end of road. It is quite well-known among the local people.
All the facilities within the hotel and room are very good and delicate. We stay in the ground floor, so the room has a independent outdoor balcony, which can be accessed from the room. The outside view is very great.
The beach in front of the room is belong to the hotel exclusively, so there are few people there. There might several beaches are available in Langkawi, but I just only stay in this beach as it is basically same as other beaches like Cenang beach.
We booked this hotel under the impression that we were going to get what we paid for (which isn't much) and it really didn't disappoint. As others have said, it's not a 5 star luxury resort so you shouldn't expect that, but the rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff friendly, the included breakfast tasty and the pool and garden areas inviting. We went in the low season so it was fairly quiet but we liked it that way. It's not on the main strip near the beach and we found having a scooter to zip around on really helpful. There were restaurants nearby within walking distance and a good mini-mart just up the road. We would definitely revisit this hotel if we return to Langkawi again.
