“A bit disappointing”
Magnificent hotel but staff rather unfriendly and unhelpul. Our room was disappointing. Nothing like the grand pictures on the website. Our "garden view" room was in fact overlooking the carpark - not a garden in sight! When we first arrived they could not locate our booking. They eventually found it. For some reason it was booked using my middle name as my surname. Not sure how that happened. Our room was not ready. In fact we went back three times before we could check in at 5.30 pm. Good and extensive breakfast. No free wifi. Not many toiletries in the bathroom. For a hotel of this standard I expected more. Great location on lakefront and close to the town.
“Tiny room with no view for five star price and too many Saga travellers!”
We spent much time searching for a hotel to stay at during the lead up to our wedding in Verbania. Trip Advisor spoke highly of the Regina Palace. It has oppulent entrance areas, beautiful grounds and swimming pool. The breakfast was superb. The only trouble we had was the lack of space in our room. There was very little storage and hanging space and roughly a foot surrounding the bed. It was tiny and with all of our luggage for wedding and honeymoon, it proved to be very difficult to move at all without tripping up and nearly breaking your neck. The staff were completely hopeless most of the time and seldom arrived with the correct drinks order. If you have a greater budget, opt for a much more spacious room and with a better view than the carpark where you revieved a daily reminder that the blue rinse brigage have arrived back in their Saga Coach. There are much nicer hotels in the area where you will recieve the same facilities for less money. Our guests certainly never stopped reminding us of the fact!
“Regina Palace -- Wonderful”
My wife and I recently stayed at the Regina Palace with another couple. This was an anniversary celebration, so we were willing to pay a bit more - we were very impressed. I won't be able to stay anywhere else the next time we're in Italy -- according to my wife. It is incredibly elegant. We had a standard room, and although small, it was quite adequate and they gave us an upgrade to a lakeview, balcony room. To see sunrise and sunsets over Lake Maggiore was fantastic. Our friends paid for a lakefront room upgrade and were given one of the suites -- it was amazing. The only drawback was that it did not have a balcony. Both rooms were extremely elegant. The breakfast consisted of an outstanding buffet. I cannot imagine anything that could have been added to it. The dining room, as with the entire hotel, was elegant. We listened to a free classical piano concert one evening in the ballroom, it was wonderful. We also made use of the outdoor and indoor pools. The indoor grotto pool is a large spa pool with water jets for massaging and other relaxing water therapies. There was also a sauna and steam room. The spa pool and its facilities were complimentary. The location was outstanding, directly on the lakefront and only a short stroll to the town center of Stresa. We went there daily and took all of our dinners in the town. They were reasonable and always satisfying. It fully met our expectations and was a wonderful start to our trip.
“Regina Palace lives up to expectations”
It was my wife's 50th birthday holiday so we were looking for something special. Having started our trip at an excellent hotel in Venice, both Stresa and the Regina Palace had something to live up to. But it delivered! From check-in onwards we had a lovely experience at the 4 star Regina Palace. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our 4th floor room was very good indeed with a balcony overlooking the lake and the islands. Perfect. The food and especially the service in the a la carte restaurant (which was a little expensive - for special occasions perhaps), were some of the best we have ever experienced. The Hotel also held an excellent free classical concert. Overall Stresa was a good location. We visited the islands (Isola Bella is just divine), had two long walks on the Mottarone mountain (recommended, especially if you can get to the Rock Palace for fantastic views overlooking Lake Orta (but choose a good day), and the combined boat and rail return trip to Locarno (we recommend getting the boat first and having lunch then getting the train from Locarno and stopping off in Santa Maria Maggiore to see the church and have drinks in the Roxy cafe - full of locals playing cards etc but very welcoming). A memorable trip. Having said that we have the feeling that a 5 night visit was about right and it isn't top of our list of towns to return to as we feel we have seen a lot of what the town has to offer
“Helpful to a point”
In 7 nights we changed rooms twice. The first 2 nights we spent in a room next to room with a baby which woke in the night and screamed. The hotel were happy to swap us, but they swapped us to a room next to a room with a baby which woke in the night and screamed. Our final room was fine. The hotel were very helpful
“Beautiful charming grand hotel with lots of Chintz etc..”
Great Hotel. View superb. Stresa is very relaxing and well worth the trip if you like being near a Lake with a mountain view.
“Relaxing and informal”
Quiet hotel even though it is on the sea front. Fantastic swimming pool at the rear of the hotel where the sun shines. We found the service good although we had seen reviews to the contrary.

Area:
Stresa, Italy: Favoured by European aristocracy in the mid-19th century, and consequently endowed with several grand hotels and villas, Stresa is now a small, quiet lakeside resort. Villa Pallavicino has a fine wooded park, botanic garden and small zoo. The favourite excursion is to the Borromean Islands, particularly Isola Bella, for its palace and gardens. A cable car from Stresa to Monte Mottarone (1,491 metres) offers great views of the lake and islands.
