“A well located, well priced hotel”

A most enjoyable stay, great views over the lake, the hotel is conveniently located only minutes from the ferry to the Islands and the cable car and a 5 to 10 minute walk to the town and railway station. Would deffinately stay here again.

“Great Hotel, good location, disappointing food”

Located 2 minutes walk from the lake, Hotel Royal is a good choice for a relaxing break. The hotel has an old style charm to it and is kept very clean. It is definately worth booking a room with a lake view which offers fantastic sunset and evening views from a nice but small balcony. The rooftop terrace offers fine panoramic views. The room is kept very clean and has a fridge but the air con was rather temperamental. Rooms are quite and we didn't hear other guests whilst in it. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful although one or two were not so. The main disappointment of our stay was the quality of food. Breakfast was average at best. The evening meal was a set menu, expensive and it was awful. We ate there on the first night and never again. The food was greasy, of low quality and badly prepared.

“2nd visit and can`t wait to go again”

This hotel is a true find ! Right on the shore of Lake Maggiore. A family run hotel which we visited last year and was so impressed with the standards, we decided to use it again. The staff were really friendly and we remembered all of them from our first visit. The Royal is ideally situated for the ferry port (about 2minutes walk ) for a memorable trip to the 3 islands out on the lake. Isola Bella is spectacular with gardens rated as one of the top 5 in the world and a beautiful palace full of wonderful treasures. (Don`t miss it) About 10 minutes walk along the promenade from the Royal and you are in the lively centre of Stresa with excellent bars and restaurants all at very reasonable prices but if you don`t feel like going out the Royal offers a value for money set menu and excellent service. Try a delicious glass of "Gavi" the local wine served very chilled The whole place is spotlessly clean from the swimming pool to the large roof terrace which overlooks the lake and Isola Bella Island

“Worth a Visit”

The hotel was very well positioned for day trips. Although it required a brisk 15 minute walk into Stresa itself it was ideally located for boat and cable car trips. It also had sufficient free parking space although spometimes only just! The only down side was the coffee served at breakfast which was awful. We only tried it once and then decided to have tea which given that we are both coffee drinkers was a hardship for the week.

“Lake Maggiore visit”

We arrived by car and stayed for 4 nights.We bagged the last space in the car park, but there appeared to be an overflow car park offsite. (parking was a priority for us) We had a double room with a lake view. This was partially blocked by trees. The bed was very hard, and the aircon was switched off. However we had a balcony which was nice to use in the evening after dinner, as was the Roof terrace. The hotel public rooms looked a bit tired and in need of a bit of redecoration We did not dine at the hotel but breakfast was ok. There was no need to walk into Stresa for ferries to the islands as they run from the lake front 200m from the hotel next to the Mt Mottarone cable car.

“Generally good”

Situated on the outskirts of Stresa very convenient for a ferry stop and the cablecar. Pleasant walk to Stresa along the lake front. Situated back from the lake front the view is partly blocked by mature trees. Roof terrace has a good view. Our 1st (ground) floor room had almost no view of lake.

“No air conditioning”

Desk staff were helpful on arrival but a bit offhand when I pointed out that the air conditioning in the room was broken. It had been broken for a couple of days, we were told, before we arrived. They arranged to have a fan sent up to the room. The air conditioning was not fixed by the time we left after 4 nights. Staff looking after breakfast were reasonably attentive. Public areas were spacious. Fair ammount of parking.
