“Beautiful”

This hotel is really beautiful, full of old world charm.The location is great, walking to everything and the service is wonderful. the front desk staff couln't be nicer and very helpful with everything. would love to go back.

“great place to go even out of season. Their spa is lovely.”

A lovely place and good hotel even outside the season. A new spa on the roof makes it great even in the rain. An easy location to get around from and great to use as a base to see milan or lake orta.

“Lake Maggiore”

Great location in small town. Try to get a room with a Lake view if possible. Cashed my travelers checks which can be a hassle these days. Excellent service. No free internet though.

“Lovely romantic setting for our honeymoon!”

A good quality hotel with very attentive and helpful staff. Not cheap but nothing in Italy was so probably reasonably comparative. A great room with marvellous views out over the lake. Well placed for an easy walk into Stresa for dinner. The only down side was the road which runs in front of this hotel (and all the others on the lake front) which was quite busy and noisy early in the am. Definitely recommnd this hotel and would certainly go back.

“Our stay in Stressa”

We had a great time in the Hotel La Palma in Stressa. We upgraded from a Side Lake View to a full Lake view. Definitely worth it, for the view of Lake Maggiorie every morning. It was about a 5 minute walk into the centre of Stressa and its restaurants and gelati bars! We made full use of the pool and roof top areas. The views from the 7th floor both day and night were spectacular. Unfortunately the Spa area was closed during all of our stay, which was a little disappointing. The room was comfortable, with enough space for the two of us and was vell serviced by the staff. We were only B & B, which we were pleased about, as the dinner menu's we looked at didn't look great. The self-service breakfasts catered for everyone. We did have a sandwich from the bar during the day, which was only OK and there didn't appear to be any room service.

“Awesome hotel in Stressa”

Wonderful family run hotel. Clean and loaded with anemities! Great location near all attractions, ferry and city centre. We had booked a side room but since they were full, they upgraded us (at no charge) to a lake view room which was absolutely awesome. The food was great. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was a good value. The staff was excellent; very friendly and courteous. Don't forget to check out the terrasse. Book there with no fears! The only minus: Internet is not free (as is the case almost everywhere in Europe) and the garage was fairly small.

Area recommendations

Mattarone mountain (by cable car) is absolutely worth it. We elected to walk back to Stressa - lots of fun but budget a good 4 hours! Any of the islands are worth a look but be ready for the tourist traps. We liked going downtown Stressa; lots of neat shops and affordable restaurants.

“Lovely hotel but we had the back view not a lake view”

This is our 2nd time to go to the hotel. The staff are excellent and the rooms are clean. However this time we had a back view and I wish I'd checked my booking properly as we were really disappointed. It was a lovely holiday but not as perfect as last years stay and I don't think the family will go back next year. When booking for Lake Maggoire I hadn't realised two airports served the area,. I booked exactly the same way with Expedia last year but the stay was completely different. It took nearly two hours to reach the hotel compared to the 40 minutes of last year. I've learned a lesson but I've booked with Expedia for many years and find the service excellent.

Area recommendations

Lake Maggoire is great. The Islands are beautiful and the ski lift is not to be missed.

“Great hotel right on Lago Maggiore”

This is a great hotel right on the main boulevard on the lake. The hotel is modern and well appointed, our room had a lovely view onto the lake. The hotel has all modern conveniences, like restaurants, garage, bar etc. etc. We enjoyed our stay there very much.

“Stresa - Hotel La Palma May 2011”

Excellent four star hotel, located on main lungolago, six minute stroll to station/main ferry terminal/old town. Rooms clean, comfortable, with balcony and view over Lago di Maggiore. Breakfast food to satisfy all tastes, regularly re-stocked, including quality fresh fruit. Staff attentive and discrete, with excellent local knowledge. Would reccomend visit to Mottarone [via cable car] for stunning mountain scenary and traditional mountain food at hotels nea summit, and a visit to the Villa Palavicino, about 10 minutes walk from the old town along the lakeside.
