“Italy at it's best! Classiest hotel we have ever been in!”
This is a magnificent Hotel in a gorgeous setting! Definitely get a lake view! Hotel is old Europe done in a baroque classic style with nothing left to improve. Can't wait to return!
“Magical experience.”
The hotel is a pure child of the bygone era of the Grand Hotels of 19th century. The atmosphere brings to mind places like Splendido in Portofino, Winter Palace in Luxor or Old Cataract in Aswan. You step in a different world, full of opulence and grandeur, it feels as a theater due to the splendid decorations and uniform of the staff. My room with garden view on the fifth floor had a nice balcony with a view of the fountain, which also had a carillon that played the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the evening. The room itself was a delight, doors and furniture decorated with inlaid wood, marble bathroom splendidly and generously adorned with innumerable towels, robe and slippers. The toiletries were marvelous, too. The bed was extremely comfortable, and overall I could say - this hotel knows how to please guests for more than a century. The breakfast was quite good, average for a hotel of this class, and I loved the outside seating - the weather was perfect in the early October, and the view over the lake from the hotel terrace was beautiful. The service is professional and generous; they allowed me free parking and kept my luggage after the check-out until later in the day, when I departed. The location is excellent, 10 min to train station and 5 min to the boats to take you to the islands. Everything was a perfection. I will definitely return there, and I recommend this hotel for those who don't mind an expense to get the best of the best.
“superb lakeside hotel”
We were extremely pleased with our stay at Grand Hotel Borromees. Perfect position on lake, excellent, attentive service, first rate facilities.Inclusive breakfast on terrace each day highlight of our visit. Restaurant was expensive but quality of food and service justified the cost. Supplements for lake view seemed excessive but lake view room was fine, overlooking beautiful gardens and statuary. Will definately come again and so lucky with September weather hot and sunny every day.
“Fabulous hotel and location”
Fabulous stay, staff very welcoming, excellent restaurant and staff who were very accommodating catering to specific requirements as family we were with required vegetarian options and options to cater for food allergies. Overall fantastic 3 night stay.
“Brilliant hotel, lovely location”
We loved this hotel. It was luxurious with stunning grounds and amazing ornate decor. We were upgraded to a lake view room with a whirlpool bath. The hotel is just a short walk from the centre of Stresa but much quieter than the centre itself. Views over the lake are stunning. The staff were wonderful - really helpful and friendly - and the breakfast was amazing: a fantastic buffet with every thing from sparking wine and smoked salmon to cereals and fresh fruit. The only criticism I could make was that dinner in the restaurant and drinks at the bar are a bit overpriced.
“A 5 Star Classic”
The occasion was my mother's 85th birthday and the hotel did us proud. We had booked a garden room but were upgraded to a larger room on the first floor, with its own terrace - the same floor as the Hemingway Suite (he wrote part of a Farewell to Arms there). The staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel gardens were breathtakingly beautiful. You really did feel part of history - Kings & Queens of Europe have stayed there. Very baroque - you almost tripped over antiques & sculptures as you walked round the hotel. The restaurant was very expensive but we only ate there once - there are plenty of other restaurants in Stresa to choose from. And breakfast on the terrace was divine!
“We loved it, we will go back!”
This hotel is excellent. The staff is super friendly, food is one of the best. Our breakfast was the best ever. We loved staying theres. We will go back again.
“Stunning vistas”
We had a 24 hour lay-over essentially at Malpensa airport and decided to use the time driving to Lake Maggiore rather than back into Milan (which we happily visited on the start of our journey) and realized we could easily reach this recommended hotel for a one night stay. It was absolute heaven - the scenery and drive were amazing, the town of Stressa was fantastic, the weather divine, the hotel was memorable in a classic heavily decorated Italian way which we enjoyed for this particular experience. The hotel breakfast on the terrace was delicious with the various Italian meats, pastries, cheeses, proscecco of course, and started our day off with a smile before our hour's drive back to Malpensa for a long-haul flight back to Hong Kong. So many restaurants in Stressa made for an easy evening with our teens.
“Grand hotel; great value”
The hotel is beautifully restored, with impeccable service and excellent food. The out of season rates were very reasonable, considering the quality of the experience.
“Fantastic Experience”
This is a fabulous hotel. When we went in September, we actually got one night free with the purchase of two nights (total of 3 nights). The breakfast is wonderful and the hotel like staying in a museum. Every floor is decorated beautifully and the room is also very well appointed. The only complaint I had was that the mattress was very hard and it hurt my back, but my husband did just fine with it. The Stresa area is terrific, with great restaurants and shopping.
