Amazing hotel with exceptional staff!

Posted 14-Jan-2014
We arrived at hotel Seeburg and were greeted with a room upgrade - a room with a lake view! From the start to the finish of our hotel stay we were continually surprised with how wonderful and helpful the hotel staff were. They always went out of their way to help with whatever questions we had. The restaurant was amazing as well Transport into town was not a problem as the bus stop was right out the front and a bus came every 15 minutes. It only took about 5 minutes on the bus to get into town. Overall, a marvelous experience and we will definitley stay here again when we return to Lucerne!

Great view but objects in our way!

Arrived at hotel pleasantly surprised - interior looks great and hotel feels nice. Corridors are a bit dated but nicely looked after, same goes for the room. View across the lake and the alps is breathtaking - it was exactly what I was hoping from the pictures and reviews, although was a bit disappointed our room (on far left side) was obstructed by the street lamp which was right in the centre of our alps view! Not much you can do about that though, but didn't help there was also a small Xmas tree decoration affixed to the centre of our balcony as well so there were two ugly things right in the middle of our stunning view. Hotel is on a relatively busy street and is unfortunately not on the water side, so you have traffic in front of the view. The restaurant was lovely to sit at although have to say the 4-course menu we chose was incredibly strange & really not that great ( mushroom consommé was particularly bland) - especially given it was so expensive! Cost us over 200 CHF incl. 2x glasses of wine each (2 ppl) (AU$380 or abouts). That's the same price as dining at Sydney's top restaurant at the Opera House (Guillaume at Benelong)! The food absolutely does not compare. I know living in Switzerland is incredibly expensive though so maybe this is the norm for 'okay' dining and if you really want a good quality experience you need to pay more? Our experience was still nice though and was great being able to dine at the hotel without going anywhere. The Xmas lights were very pretty. Breakfast was lovely, although again bit of a shame to see so many things in the way of the view (Xmas decor, shades, road, curtains, etc). Maybe it's better when it's warmer & you can make use of the outdoor seating. Food had a good selection although not the egg things were a bit weird & didn't taste very nice - a traditional scramble works better I think! Bus to the centre of town was efficient, fast and fantastic. Australia really needs to learn some pointers from the Swiss as their transport system is brilliant! We should swap coffee-making skills for transport system skills ;)

Lake view room is a must

Posted 01-Nov-2013
Pros: View.
Location: Walking along the lake side is pretty nice.
We stayed in one of the Lake View rooms and it doesn't disappoint. Great view of the lake from the balcony. The room is a bit small with not much closet space. The bath room and the WC are separate which isn't bad. Room is very clean. The people at front desk are very helpful. Location is a bit far from town so it may not be easiest without a car.

Nice hotel, but a bit outdated.

Very nice view of the water, and is very close to public transit. Staff was very helpful, wonderful service. The rooms themselves just need some updating, but overall a good experience.

Hotel with wide ranging variety of price options

Posted 09-Oct-2013
Pros: Cheaper than central Luzern but close to city central, quiet location, lakeside views, space in rooms, bathtub present, towel assortment, free wi-fi
Cons: Replace keys with keycards (key chains are huge and bulky), not sure if bed linens replaced 2nd night (only that bed was made)
Location: Quiet location for good night's sleep. Close to lakeshore - great view. Transport Museum halfway btwn hotel and city - walkable or along bus route.
Hotel Seeburg is about 15-30 minutes (up to 15 minute intervals between buses + 15 minutes travel time; note that the ticket machines only take chip+pin cards or change, no bills) by city bus No. 24 from the Luzern Bahnhof (rail station), just get off at the stop called "Hotel Seeburg." Alternatively, brisk 30-40 min., 2 mile walk from station. Divided into two "wings" with distinctive price ranges, the expensive luxury rooms on the west and the more standard rooms on the east going for around 150 francs/night or less - I stayed in the latter. The reception area where you check in and out is in between the two wings. The elevator for the east wing was small, fits only about two people with bags or four without. The rooms are locked using regular keys and mechanical locks rather than keycards. The rooms are probably around 200 square feet with up to three twin beds, and the bathroom is around 30 square feet with a bathtub. There was also a small (maybe 10 sf) walk-in closet with shelves and a tiny fridge. When you first check in there's a red candy on the pillow of each bed, although not replaced the second night. Generous allotment of towels in the bathroom: 2 long bath towels, 2 shorter ones, 1 towel for drying your feet as you get out of the bath, and 2 facecloths. Free wi-fi is provided but you have to obtain cards with login information at check-in. The hotel is only 50 feet away from the eastern lake shore. CNN Int'l & UK Sky for English TV channels.
