“Wonderful hotel & staff”

We arrived about 5 hours before check in and at the end of breakfast. Staff rolled out the red carpet for the 4 weary travelers who had traveled through the night and were tired and hungry. They fed us immediately (kept the kitchen open a little longer) and found available rooms so we could check in as soon as possible. I don't know where these young people went to hospitality school, but they must have graduated with honors. I will stay there again and our hats off to Leemon and Daniel for advising us on sites to see, weather reports, etc. Also, to the traveler who was annoyed by the church bells ringing every 1/4 hour, I/we found it charming. A 400 hundred year old German church was one of the many sites we visited.

“Will come back”

The hotel is well located near the centre of Luzern, easy walking distance from all major locations. It is clean, comfortable, the restaurant has a really good selection of locally sourced produce , the breakfast had a good choice and the staff are super friendly and accommodating! Would defiitley recommend.

“Really nice hotel in a noisy area”

The hotel is staffed by really friendly staff. It is conveniently located near the centre and lake but is very close to the cathedral. The rooms are nicely furnished but we did not like the "open" bathroom. It is a glass door with minimal frosting - not private. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms and so we had to keep windows open. That then presents this hotels biggest problem. The church bells sound every 15 minutes and even more at weekends. The hotel is near a bus stop and this is noisy from early morning. There is a public area at the rear of the hotel with a table tennis table and locals seem to congregate late at night creating lots of noise. Would be a really nice hotel except for the noise.

“Lucerne”

A very smart, clean, traditional and beautiful place in Switzerland. A real 'must-see'. There are many snow capped mountain walks and day trips available for longer stays. For shorter stays a boat trip on the lake and excursion to Mount Rigi is well worth a visit and just wandering along the old city wall and around the old quarter is always nice. The Tourist Information office by the station is the best place to start any visit.

Dining

There are many places to eat in Lucerne however food is much more expensive than in the UK. There are many Pizzerias and wine bars and hotel restaurants all of a similar price. If you are holidaying on a budget it is worth stocking up at the breakfast buffet for a lunch snack and take a flask with you as the hotels in Switzerland rarely have tea/coffee facilities in the rooms.

“Very Satisfied”

The room is very unique. There is a small kitchen area and the toilet is spacious as well. The hotel is located in a good area (near the river and main sights) and I didn't have to drive to get around.

“Excellent”

The hotel is situated at an excellent location.... and is very good.... the staff is extremely helpful and speak good english.... I took their help to get information about weather forecast and advice on how I should use my days to get the most out of switzerland.... they also went out of the way in making our stay more comfortable and enjoyable..... the hospitality from the staff was very very good..... the only downpoint probably was that there could have been some more options in the breakfast... but overall it was FANTASTIC.

“Impressed and Very Satisfied.”

Overall this hotel is excellent. The rooms were clean and the staff were very considerate. We love the service; the fact that during some of the times the staff had to double as a restaurant staff as well as working at the counter made them exceptional. Would definately stay there again. One tiny downside though, we are not used to the warm weather so the lack of air conditioning was a bit of a let down. But with the fan and cool night weather it was not too bad. I guess we are just used to the technology. Free wifi was also a nice touch.

“Great hotel close to station”

Hotel Hofgarten is in a great location. Very close to Luzern train station, shopping, and sightseeing. The hotel staff are very courteous and helpful. It was raining during our stay and the hotel provided us with umbrellas to use during our two days in Luzern. Also, the door of the bathrooms are see-through...being that Americans are shy, the hotel covered the doors for us. Great small and reasonable hotel. Restaurant in the hotel is very good.

“Classified in the category of Unique Hotel Staff FANTASTIC”

We were with the understanding that the hotel was rated as a 4 star hotel. It is, but not in the usual sense.400 years ago it was a carpenters shop that over the years converted to a hotel that has small but adequate rooms,great location,a beautiful patio,great dining room, wonderful food and super friendly and helpful staff.The only downsides were the area was noisy on the week ends and my new slippers suggested that the floor had not been washed for several days.

Traveller's tip

Stayed in Switzerland for 8 days -our Swiss rail pass got us everywhere Geneva,Lugano,Chur,Zurich and into museums for free. The trains are great!
