“Beautiful Location...”
As I walked past all of the other hotels which had been an option, I was grateful to be in the Plaza. The service was exceptional, the bed heavenly and the view was breathtaking. I would recommend it to anyone.
“Very nice hotel in excellent location”
Was surprised we had to pay for car park when it was a hotel facility but view of the lake made it all worth while very nice hotel would definitely stay there again
“Montreux Experience”
Our stay at the Royal Plaza was perfect, the staff were very helpful, attentive and polite. The hotel is excellently situated for trips to Chamonix, Grand St. Bernard and Lousanne. The Christmas Markets are only a short walk away, we found the choice of local restaurants limited however the hotel catered for everything from evening bar snacks to full dining in the restaurant.
“Gone down a bit”
We stayed here 8 years ago and loved it. This time, standards have fallen a little. The pool has gone. Layout of the breakfast buffet is inefficient (an inadequate toaster jammed in a corner, for example). Worst thing was that on arrival at 5 pm (after a very delayed flight) our room (suite) wasn't ready. We were told we could have a free drink - turned out that was not just as compensation for the wait but a standard offer - nor could we have the cup of tea we needed, but only a cocktail. At 6, on returning to reception, the room STILL wasn't ready. At 6.20, we eventually did get in and a bottle of wine was sent up. Given that checkout is 12 noon, it isn't reasonable to have to hang around until 6.20 for a room booked six months ago. There was an interconnecting door between our suite and the next - and it wasn't soundproof. I'd say this is not a 5-star hotel. A good 4-star, yes. That said, the lake view remains glorious, and the suite was perfectly clean and comfortable. Food and service also good, and staff polite.
“Expensive Town but Good Hotel”
We stayed at this hotel princiapally because my husband was going to be using the neighbouring convention centre, so it was very convenient. The town is amazingly beautiful, although was surprisingly hot and humid. The hotel has a 5 star rating, which I don't agree with. It was very nice, the bed was extremely comfy, but the overall decor, service, bar, restaurant and spa were more 3 Star Plus than 5 Star. Like most things in the area, it has a very 1980s feel to it and just didn't feel as crisp and cared for as other 5 Star hotels we have stayed in. The service in the bar and resturant is pretty poor, although we knew this because of reviews on other sites. Still you would expect them to have more than 3 staff on a 20 cover restaurant plus bar on a Saturday night. As usual for the town, the food and drink was very expensive, so go with lots of cash to spend!
“5star should offer more than just a great location”
This hotel is tired. The size of it's standard Lake view rooms is tight. Fixtures and fittings are ready for a makeover. E.G. Air conditioning unit that rattled so badly that it had to be turned off. Neibours had exactly the same issue so this is a general issue not a specific room issue. Staff are freindly but far too relaxed for a 5 star hotel where service should seen but not heard. Twice we ahd to go in search of bar staff to pay our bill. Where do they all go to when you need them?
“Beautiful setting but no sound proofing take ear plugs - not 5 star comfort”
Positives: Beautiful setting, gorgeous promenade, close to the railway bringing you from airport, hotel provides free public transport pass, cocktail on arrival,30CHF voucher for the spa (cant be used on cheaper treatments),free blockbuster movies in room, extremely comfy beds, very clean, view from breakfast area stunning. Negatives: Hotel exterior is tired, our specified lake view room had a “partial” view,on 4th floor overlooking the side of the lake a tired summer terrace and a huge tree blocking view, asked to be moved advised 50CHF a night to upgrade to “face on” lake view,as a special occasion agreed then told fully booked, no in room comp tea, coffee or water, walls and doors paper thin, hear guests in nearby rooms and the elevators, need ear plugs to sleep through the night and we are heavy sleepers.I called reception at 5.20am first night to report noise(two adult couples in the opposite rooms running around in the corridor in their underwear with drinks in their hands for over half an hour!)no one appeared.Following night a group of young lads in the room below partied into the night, again reception did not act on the noise. We are seasoned travellers and have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world, this hotel is not a 5 star based on the comforts provided. Remember on checkout , hotel and local tax comes to 9.60CHF a night, adds up if you are staying a while. All in all Montreux is gorgeous and we really enjoyed the area and its people.
“Some Rude Staff and problems with AC”
The first problem was that when we arrived we were being served by the receptionist who suddenly started serving other guests because apparently they were special guests. Then we were escorted to our room which turned out to be a smoking when I had requested a non-smoking one, and there was an availability of non-smoking. The non-smoking we were allocated was so small that the bathroom door would not close when the bathroom floor towel was placed on the floor. They said they would upgrade us the next day to a slightly bigger room but that never happened and we found out that there was an availability of rooms. The bath tub was so slippery showing that it had not been cleaned thoroughly. The cleaners would fold the same facial towels in the bathroom so that they would not have to change them and I realized this because they were not clean. Finally, some of the staff were very rude: One member of the concierge team, a very tall fellow, was rude enough to park the hotel van in front of my driver door so I couldn’t get out. When confronted on this silly act, he said that he had done that purposely because I should not have parked without giving them my key. When I argued that “this is was not a way to treat a guest and what if I had an emergency in the middle of the night and couldn’t get out,” he said "oh I’m only joking with you." Finally, I put all of this in writing to the hotel manager and never heard back. It felt more like a 3 star hotel, especially size of the bathroom.
“look elsewhere!!!”
we booked the royal plaza and at check in they said we have been upgraded from villa toscane to royal plaza?! which was a bit confusing as we paid for royal plaza! then upon entering the room we were very disappointed, it was so small and not the double mountain view like we expected only good thing about the room was the free movies. another disappointment was we went for dinner at cafe bellagio and as we are vegetarians the only food we could have was the risotto which is fine it was 24chf pp but when we received the bill they charged us 32chf pp!!! we disputed this and managers response was as they gave us big portions they charged us more, problem for us was they hadnt told us this when we ordered the meal!!! very disappointed with this hotel, i have more business trips to montreux lined up and will definitley be staying elsewhere!!!
