“Fabulous View”
This hotel is a "grande dame" with a kind of faded 1930s beauty and may not suit those travellers who want a modern clinical "Americanised" hotel. We loved it though, from the pink corridor to the grand dining room, and although we did not eat there, it looked beautiful. Our room was not huge, but big enough for our 3 night stay, and had a delightful little balcony overlooking the lake. The hotel itself is right on the lake and I enjoyed "people watching" from the balcony as they strolled along the promenade which leads to central Montreux and Chillon. Overall a great hotel, very friendly staff and a delightful place for a romantic getaway.
“Delightful hotel”
Very good hotel, in an excellent position right on the lake. Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable although no views in the cheaper ones. Prices are quite high and we would not have stayed here without the Expedia deal - but with it, it was a fair price. Breakfast is extra and we decided to forego this; there are plenty of cafes very close where coffee and croissants can be enjoyed at a fraction of the price. Despite the indifferent weather (wet and quite chilly in May 2010) we found Montreux a delightful place to stay and would recommend the town and the hotel. An added bonus was the Riviera Card provided free by the hotel, which gave free transport on local bus services and discounts on museums.
“Wonderful experience”
I arrived at the hotel late and exhausted from work. Check in took no more than 5 minutes and the staff were extremely welcoming. The room, though a bit small and somewhat dated, was none the less, spotlessly clean and quite comfortable-very quiet as well. The view of the lake was spectacular! Breakfast is in a lovely room overlooking the lake- great selection of hot and cold food. I used one of the common rooms in the morning for a meeting and it was quiet and comfortable. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful- I'd definitely go back!
“Superb Montreux hotel”
Can't recommend the Hotel Eden Palace du Lac more highly. Service was superb, hotel is centrally located with amazing views of the lake from the dining room, room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable (we take our own kettle, tea, coffee and dried milk - how sad are we!) Breakfast buffet was superb with everything you would need to set you up for the day. While the hotel is not cheap, neither is Montreux so by local standards is good value. We wouldn't hesitate to go back ... and we will.
“Fully Recommended”
An excellent experience, from first arriving at the desk to leaving. Had thought that breakfast might be over-priced, but changed my mind when I experienced the good quality, and tried (one day only) to replace it in local cafes.
“Very enjoyable saty”
Staff were very very helpful, checking us in late and helping us print off train tickets (James in particular was very helpful). Only downside I would say would be that the room got a little hot in the mornings
“Great location, friendly staff, but not the best in 40 degrees +!”
This hotel is in need of a little freshening up, however it's location was amazing; right on the shore or Lake Geneva with amazing views from our balcony. The staff were friendly and keen to help, however our room did not cope well with the heat. It was around 40 outside and our AC was broken, only to be replaced by a temporary unit which needed venting - instead the door had to be left a jar to fit the vent hose out. This meant the room was hot and noisy as the unit was neither effective nor quiet. Putting this aside the hotel was pleasant and well located. In cooler times this would not have been an issue. If you don't want a pool try the Grand hotel Swiss opposite the station. Had great views from their restaurant terrace!
“Perfect Location!”
We were overall very impressed with the hotel: it's the perfect location - next door to the casino, parallel to the main shopping street, right on the lake, the lake's public swimming area a 2min walk, and a beautiful lake-sunset right outside the window. And it still manages to be peaceful and quiet! There's a lovely outdoor pool too. Hotel was very clean, rooms large and comfortable, & the breakfast (cooked and continental buffet) was fabulous. Montreux is on the expensive side and the hotel's restaurant reflects this (we didn't eat dinner there because of this) but if you're splashing out, why not? There are also many lovely restaurants a few mins walk away so this is not a problem if you're on a budget. Highly recommended.
“It may have been the Jazz festival, but not great service for a 4 star”
Great location and great view. However really not impressive service, and I'm not usually one to complain - but this time I was annoyed. It was a weekend away without the children for the Jazz festival and I booked a double bedded room. On arrival we had a room with two singles and were told that was all that was available - even though we had pre-specified the double. We asked if there was at least a double sheet to pull the beds together. While we were out someone merely left two single sheets in our room for us to sort out.
