“Excellent hotel”

The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful and made for an even more enjoyable stay. The breakfast buffet doesn't look as extensive as some hotels but the range on offer, and quality, meant we were always well set up for a day's sightseeing or touring. We didn't try the main hotel restaurant as we explored the many restaurants in and around Sirmione. However, it had a good menu range. Driving to and from the hotel is challenging as you have to drive through the old town with its very narrow streets which can be crowded with pedestrians. But just be patient and take your time! There are restrictions on entering the old town on certain days but the hotel were so helpful in ensuring we knew what they were. Overall a great break at a great hotel.

Area recommendations
Enjoy a stroll around the old town of Sirmione to look at the shops, visit the castle and the grotto. All good value and then stop for a coffee or gelato. A trip into Verona is easy and is well worth it for the architecture, history, shopping, or just to sit in one of the squares. There are lots of lovely towns and villages around Lake Garda and a trip up to Malcesine is well worth it. Many of the towns have markets on different days which are worth a visit.
When to go
Spring/autumn - miss the main summer period as Sirmione is crowded.
Getting there
Flew from Gatwick to Verona which was very easy.
Getting around
A taxi from Verona Airport to Sirmione is expensive. You can use public transport but this means a bus into Verona City, a train to Desenzano, and then a taxi to Sirmione. We hired a car, with the hire car offices and the cars themselves being very close to the terminal at Verona. Driving was fairly easy, just remembering that lane discipline and signalling isn't as good as in the UK! There are tolls on the autostradas but these are very cheap and there is always someone to pay if you don't have change.

“Quiet location in Sirmione”

We booked a lakeside room and on arrival were advised that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite. Although the junior suite did not have a view of the lake the overall comfort of the room was very good and the view from the large balcony over parkland was good. We found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.

“Fantastic Hotel great location”

Second trip to this wonderful hotel, and the standards have not slipped in any shape or form since last year, in fact the addition of the wellness centre has only enhanced this hotel. The hotel owner and all his staff are the friendless I have encountered in any hotel. Whilst the exterior looks of the hotel may not look four star, the interior and overall cleanliness can not be faulted. There is nothing better than sitting on the restaurant balcony in the morning eating your breakfast over looking the lake, just pray you get sunshine to go with the view.

Area recommendations
Take a trip out to Milan or Venice.

“Great Location and Top Quality”

We had a great stay here over the Easter break. Although Hotel Continental was a bit pricey we decided to splash out and it was worth it. The room size was great, the breakfast had a plentiful and varied selection, the staff were very helpful and the location is brilliant. You can walk out of the hotel and be in the centre of all the action in 5 mins. The only downside is getting there! Be warned, particularly if you are driving here during peak season... there is a rather stressful drive through the old town to get to the hotel. There wasn't much by way of signage and if you don't pay attention, you may miss the traffic lights on the narrow roads where only one direction of traffic can flow at a time. You will have to drive at a snail's pace as well as you are literally driving through the crowds - we were the first of a bunch of cars to drive into the old town and without anyone to follow... stressful!!! Park at the hotel and don't drive again until you leave! :)

“A very well run hotel”

The Continental is beautifully situated on the lakeside in a quiet part of Sirmione. The friendly staff are well-trained and professional. Our room was clean and comfortable with a large private balcony overlooking the lake. Breakfast taken on the terrace was most enjoyable. An excellent hotel.

“An excellent Lake Garda Hotel”

The hotel and its location, the courtesy and attentiveness of the staff and the services they provided made this a holiday to remember for all the right reasons and I would highly recommend the hotel.

Area recommendations
The whole of Sirmione is delightful to explore on foot as the majority of traffic is barred from the narrow picturesque ancient roads. The town is also an excellent base from which to catch the many ferries that service the towns and villages along the whole length of this huge lake in a most beautiful and varied part of Italy.
When to go
We went in early June and the weather was glorious, touching 35 degrees on several days. A pleasant waiter at the Restaurante San Lorenzo advised us that September and October are also great times to visit this area.

“Great Hotel”

This hotel fully met all our expectations - all the excellent reviews proved correct. The food and service in the restaurant were first class - we thought the half board basis we chose was great value. Hotel is only 5 mins walk from the centre of the town. We brought back a brochure to recommend to our friends

“Happy customers”

Our experience was a good experience. The Hotel was as depicted, clean and the service what I would expect from a 4 star Hotel. Our 'lake view' request was granted and we were happy with the room with the exception being the walls were very thin and we could here people in neighbouring rooms. This could have been a potential problem. The location was as described and we were very pleased with it: just off the main busy area and so nice and quiet. We would visit again.

“Hotel Continental - Sirmione (Lake Garda)”

The location of the Hotel was fantastic. a great place to stay, extremely comfortable, excellent service, views over the Lake are amazing. All of the staff are extremely helpful. Would recommend this Hotel to everyone. The pool area is great but of course we went in the low season so I can imagine this Hotel to be fully booked in the summer.

Traveller's tip
Not sure whether an 8 day stay is too long. If you didn't have the good weather you wld be at a lost of what to do. Just to mention that visiting the other small Islands is a must but quite expensvie ticket prices. They don't do 3/4 day passes, so it can work out v. expensive.

“Lake view Would have made the trip complete”

The Hotel Continental cannot be faulted the cleanliness of the hotel along with the friendliness of the staff is second to none however for the amount of money we paid for the trip I would have expected a Lake View. The view over the Lake is stunning and I sat on the pier outside the hotel with my legs dangling in the water sipping cappucino and wished I could wake up to this view every day!! Sirmione its self is an interesting town with nice shops and ice cream parlours, the restaurants were slightly pricey but I think this is just relative to the surroundings, as with any up market area you would expect to pay slightly more than the norm. We travelled round the lake to other towns and villages and definately recommend visits to Desenzano, Salot, Gardone and Lazsie (which was my favourite) and on Mondays there is a good market in Pecheira.
