“Far better than 2 stars”

This hotel lives up to all expectations. The location is easy to find and very central to everything that Malcesine has to offer. The rooms were simple, yet comfy and clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful and we ate in the hotel every evening as the food was inexpensive with a 10% discount offered to residents. I couldn't fault this hotel, and would definitely go back there again as our stay was excellent.

“Great Place”

This was a perfect place for me -- the landlady is lovely and met me at the bus stop the first night when I had no idea how to find the hotel. She gave me ideas and maps and moved me to a much better room after the first night in a small space. The hotel is very central and was very affordable. I had a nice balcony with view of the church and mountains. The only thing to be aware of when going to Malcesine is that when you get to Verona airport there is still a lot to do -- a bus to the city centre and then a 2 hour bus ride to the town, and there may be some wait at Verona bus station for the next lakes service. But the bus ride past various lake towns is pleasant and Malcesine, from what I could tell, was the best of the lot. A fantastic little town, plenty to see and eat and buy, and swimming in the lake was a dream, with mountain views and lovely sun. I hope to go back soon!

Area recommendations
See it all! Eat at different lakeside restaurants and in the town and get a map to make sure you have covered it. I went in late September and it was gorgeous but I understand in high summer it may be too hot and crowded.

“Very good, comfortable and reasonably priced.”

This is a great hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant great, and the hotel itself very comfortable, clean and well maintained. Our friends who were getting married in Malcesine, were made very welcome . Even though they were not guests, and were even given a discount on their meal even though they were not staying in the hotel. And they liked the food so much, they kept coming back to the restaurant to eat. It is a great hotel to stay in, as it in virtually on the lake front - only 2 mins walk away! I would highly recommend it.

Area recommendations
Malcesine is probably in the most picturesque part of Lake Garda, although I did not venture any further north.

“Room for improvement”

Hotel staff very friendly and room kept very clean, however very disappointed with the standard of food served compared to food served to non residents in the restaurant. Would not reccommend this hotel if you are going half-board.

Area recommendations
Would reccommend the lakeside for its views which are stunning.

“A great stay”

A group of six stayed for 5 nights in late May 2011. We had a most enjoyable stay and found everything about Malcesine, the hotel and the staff to be as good as we had hoped. Our only reservation would be the lack of air-con in the bedrooms; the daytime temperature was in the high 20s and some of our party had a little difficulty in sleeping in the heat. I don't know how we'd have coped in a hotter part of the season.Otherwise the Hotel Alpino was excellent, and good value for what we paid.

Area recommendations
Botanical Gardens in Gardone. Monte Baldo cablecar.
Getting there
We flew to Bergamo, where we stayed for 2 nights. Malcesine is more difficult to get to than the resorts like Desenzano at the south end of Lake Garda, so we opted to hire a taxi-service at a cost of 220 euro each way. It's a bit expensive considering Ryanair's airfares but split among six persons it's not too bad and it's efficient. It avoids having to change buses/trains with heavy luggage and obviates waiting times and concerns with connection times etc.
Events and shows
There are theatrical/musical events staged in a large marquee at the Castello on most evenings. The one we saw was nothing spectacular - just a lady singer and her pianist husband in a programme of mostly Italian opera excerpts. It was nonetheless quite entertaining and very good value..

“An experience which ticked every box.”

Four of us have just returned from Malcesine, on Lake Garda where we spent a week at the Alpino Hotel. Everything about the hotel was 5 star (although it is in fact a 2 star!!!). The location was central, the rooms a good size and very comfortable, there was a hairdryer, and a fan to cool us in the evening. The food was delicious and with a 10% discount for guests, very reasonably priced. Having looked round the town we chose to eat at the Alpino every night except one. The hosts and staff were warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. This hotel exceeded our expectations by far and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Area recommendations
Malcesine was our favourite place on Lake Garda. We chose it because it was at the northern end of the Lake where the scenery was spectacular and it was not too busy or noisy.

“Good value, excellent location and great food”

What a wonderful hotel - the owners couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. The hotel is in the heart of Malcesine, one street away from the lake with wonderful mountain views at the front. The room was spacious, well furnished and very clean. We ate at the hotel's restaurant as guests get 10% discount and the food and service was fantastic, so much we didn't eat anywhere else during our two day stay! We tried both the pizzas and pastas and we noted lots of locals eating there which is always a good sign. Buffet breakfast was good too. We didn't manage to get a space in the hotel parking lot, be warned it is expensive in the town centre car parks and roadside parking, but there is a car park 10 minutes walk away which is more reasonable. If we go back to Malcesine we would definitely stop at Hotel Alpino again.

“Excellent”

On arrival we were given the choice of two rooms - both were perfectly good but we chose the one with the better view of Monte Baldo. We also ate in the Hotel's restaurant - good food and attentive service, astonishing for the price. I rarely respond to feedback requests, but this is a a hotel that actually made us feel welcome - also a very rare occurrence.

Area recommendations
The trip on the lake was great (especially the paddle 'steamer') but, oddly for a lakeside location, the thing to not miss is a trip up the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo. Great gelato at Dolce Vita as well.
Getting there
We used the 62-64 bus from Verona to get there (and the same service back, but only to Peschiera). Very good value but our return trip depended upon a service that didn't run for some reason.
