This was the most enjoyable stay that I have experienced in any hotel in the UK. The staff were friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The hotel itself retained an old world charm that is very rare these days. All the guests that we spoke to return year after year because they love it so much, some had been coming for over twenty years..
The food was outstanding and I loved the breakfasts and afternoon tea especially. Everything was beautifully prepared with great attention paid to presentation.
The views over Lake Ullswater are truly spectacular and really need to be seen as a picture would not do it justice.
This is a truly wonderful hotel and my husband and I hope to return again as soon as possible.
One could not find a better location!

The hotel staff were warm and welcoming from the first check-in. The lounge areas had plenty of space and the waiting staff made sure you were comfortable. We went for dinner one night at the hotel restaurant, the meal was excellent you felt that you were being looked after through out, and we were pleasantly surprised at the cost. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept on, I didn't have enough pillows at first but more were brought to the room.
There was a varied menu for the breakfast. The concierge was helpful and informed us of the local activities before we set off to ride the steam boats. We also order room service, this was reasonably quick although our order did get taken wrong originally this was fixed before the food was brought up. The same is true for the breakfast in bed. Overall this was a lovely stay and we would definitely go again.
Nice to find a hotel where the parking is not extra! Great attentive and friendly staff, lovely views.
Fantastic cheese souffle starter for dinner but mussels need some serious attention/flavour before getting to the table please Chef............
Awesome breakfast with great attention to detail and really nice to be with staff.

My wife and I stayed for just one night in a room with a mountain view. The room was decorated in a traditional country house fashion and was very clean and comfortable. We were welcomed upon our arrival by the owner who was attentive throughout our stay, as was all the staff. At first, there was an over-abundance of deference and I really wanted the staff to 'unbutton' a bit and let their own personalities shine through. Eventually, they relaxed as they got to know us and we all got on fine. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really excellent. There was a fixed price menu at £45 pp; however, the selections on the menu were wide enough to suit any palate, and every course (there were 4) was cooked to perfection. The hotel itself is situated in 18 acres of beautiful grounds and has stunning views to the mountains. It is hidden away from the busier routes and, if you're looking for a quiet getaway with high standards and excellent food, I would recommend giving this a try.
Enjoyed every second of the stay all round service is excellent!!!They are super clean , rooms are very comfortable and the staff service is amazing they are all kind and friendly. The hotel is situated by a beautiful lake ,everything was lovely I just did not want to leave!!!!
The hotel is in the middle of the countryside, quiet and beautiful, yet within reaching distance of most of the Lake District. The staff are excellent and the restaurant serves really first class food. We will be returning in the future.
Home to England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, the Lake District is a National Park of astonishing beauty and a huge draw for nature lovers and hikers. The multitude of lakes and tarns give the park a stunningly unique landscape, which visitors can take in during a slow ramble or whilst enjoying one of the area's many recreational facilities. Coniston Boating Centre offers boat and bike hire.
