"Splendid place for a two night visit to Lancaster."
Drove to Lancaster from Scotland. Hotel easy to find, Easy to park, speedy check in. Excellent room, well designed bath room, comfortable all around. Good breakfast, very helpful staff. Easy check out. Left early on 2nd morning to drive home to Dorset. Excellent breakfast was provided half an hour before the restaurant was due to open, organised by the two very competent and helpful staff at reception, I suspect they were the duty receptionist and duty manager.

"Lovely hotel, brilliant location"
The Riverside is a comfortable friendly and relaxing hotel. Not so big which is why we like it so much. The view of the river from every room is a delight. It is also close to the shopping without the biz of the high street. Ducks and swans sailing past, lovely. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. Sitting on the bar terrace over the river in the sunshine was just the best. At breakfast if you leave hungry it's your own fault. Service was quick for tea and toast everything else was buffet style. On this occasion we didnt use the gym or pool. The parking is right beside the hotel under cover which for us was a bonus as we were on a motorcycle. The hotel is so good we booked again for next year.

"Charming but overpriced."
We are a young couple and we came to the hotel for one night. The positives are a friendly welcome, good service, nice clean rooms with a homely feel. There are good facilities in the room and It was very cosy. Particular plus points were the lovely china tea set for making tea in the room and a glass of port on welcome. Breakfast was nice, although only served until 10 am. The negatives are that we were only given one robe, the room was very very hot, and there is nowhere to park at all. The hotel has a rather grim looking exterior and the decor if the communal areas is very very strange and dated. Lots of cherubs and strange neo-classical style art! But, these details do not detract from the wholesome charm of the place. It is whimsical and endearing. Not a romantic get away for couples but nice enough for one nights stay if you happen to be in the area. I would give 4 stars but the place looses a star for the lack of romance and a poor nights sleep due to outside noise. It was also very overpriced.

The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa

"Good Hotel, good location and very helpful staff"
We stayed a few days at the Wordsworth after much research. The reviews that I read were mixed but I have only positive things to say about the hotel. We did not use the spa facilities so are unable to comment on them other than the gym looked small from what I saw through an open door. My first impression was Reception where I thought the decor was a little dark but my wife thought was more traditional. There are several lounges and what appeared a comfortable bar, again somewhere we didn't use. Our room was superb, as we had been upgraded to a junior suite, with plenty of space, a comfortable sofa and a balcony with table and chairs. The bathroom was excellent, with a bath with jacuzzi, and it had obviously been recently renovated. The bed itself was large and comfortable. We didn't eat in the main restaurant but used the Bistro on both nights of our stay. The food was reasonable, if not brilliant, and the prices acceptable. Overall it was an enjoyable stay in a hotel that was well situated for a number of very pleasant walks out of Grasmere. We would be very happy to stay again at the Hotel.
