“Solid choice”
Quiet location in Brunate, overlooking Lake Como (easy transfers from one to the another by a spectacular funicular tram up the hillside, e5.10 return tickets, where the return leg can be on a different day to the outward leg). Great views from most rooms. V friendly staff, clean room/hotel, nice breakfasts. You won't mistake it for staying at the Ritz, but it is a good, honest little hotel
“Nice, friendly staff and amazing views.”
Not the top shelf but realy good value for money. Room was clean, with new furnitures and impressive large balcony. Staff very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast with selection of fresh cheeses and local ham. We've had front room with an amazing views of Como Lake and the Alps. Brunate is a small quiet town with very useful funicular trains going to Como City all day long. Short walk from "lighthouse" and good spot to start hicking up mountains towards Mount Boletto (1.5h). We would love to visit again and we will.
“Hotel Vista Lago”
People there were friendly by had 3 disappointing items: 1. The Funi was closed for maintenance and we needed to take a bus to the top. The bus stop was lower requiring a very tiring carrying of our luggage. 2. The Hotel was closed from breakfast until 2 PM. We arrived before 2 PM to find locked doors. - Very scary until someone walked up and unlocked the doors at 2:00 while we on the phone to expedia. 3. The restaurant was closed for dinner.
“Would stay here again”
The hotel was very clean, and my single room had an adorable balcony area overlooking a church. The room was not large, but it was a single room in europe so I didn't expect it to be, and there is only wifi in the common area (although you might have been able to connect in your room if you had a computer via cable). Those were the only negatives, and they weren't enough to outweigh the great price.. The staff was very nice, the breakfast was good, and the bathroom and room were spotless. I took my bag and it was a very short walk from where the funicular stopped, less than five minutes. I would definitely stay here again.
“Wonderful view!”
Gorgeous view. Plenty of sattelite channels for the t.v. Little bar/relaxation area downstairs. Much nicer to take the funicular/trolley to stay, than in the town center. Completely relaxing feeling when you enjoy the view. Make sure to try to book for a view.
“Friendly owners and staff, homely hotel”
I had to phone the hotel in advance of our visit and discovered that the wife of one of the two owners was English. She was helpful and friendly. We met and chatted to her husband during our stay and he was also extremely nice and his English very good. The reason for my call was a misunderstanding about the accommodation available in the apartment. Expedia's site referred to just one bed. In fact, the apartment can accommodate four (one double bed and a double sofabed in separate rooms). It is spacious and has excellent views across Como and the lake. Due to our misunderstanding we booked an additional double room, smallish but comfortable, with a partially obscured view of the lake. Others have described difficulties in finding the hotel but we had no problem. The approach road was somewhat hair-raising - very steep and with sharp bends - but then, I don't exactly have nerves of steel. With so little available space, parking a car is a nightmare. We opted to pay to park ours in the hotel's private space, which turned out to be next to the funicular. The funicular itself was excellent and takes you right down to the lakeside where there are lots of good restaurants and enjoyable walks. Breakfast at the hotel was simple but plentiful and the coffee (prepared properly on request) excellent. Unfortunately, we had no opportunity to sample the evening food as the chef had an accident on the day we arrived. She was very cheerful about it and we hope she is now fully recovered.
“Best view ever”
The hotel was lovely - and the view from our third floor lake facing balcony was excellent - would stay here again just for that . Was nice staying out of Como and the fenicular ride made the whole holiday experience more interesting. Room was small and basic but perfectly clean and comfortable.
“Hotel more like a B&B”
Did not expect too much and did not receive too much. OK for the cost.
“stunning views”
nice clean old fashioned hotel in small village above como next to fenicular railway station and church ,access via very steep and narrow road or fenicular which runs til 12pm in summer . we arrived at linate airport in the evening ,so trains to como were infrequent , the hotel had kindly arranged transport for us direct to hotel so this was fantastic .trains run every 2 hours or so during daytime so this wouldn't be a problem. The view of the lake from our room's balcony was stunning ,do take the local bus from brunate station to the light house and then to car park in woods were bus turns round for even more stunning views and a snack in one of the local cafes, wonderful place would recomend it to anyone ,do bear in mind the hilly terrain ,you need to be fairly fit to makethe most of it on foot .
“Beautiful Views of Lake Como”
Lovely friendly hotel with a beautiful view of Lake Como. Vernicular Railway gives you easy access to Como town centre which is about a 3minute walk away. Parking isn't great as you have to pay to park your car in the secure car park which we didn't realise. The breakfast was ok but our room was very modern and clean with wifi internet access which was incredibly useful. It was also very lovely being right at the top of the hill in Brunate which afforded spectacular views of Lake Como.
