“An Excellent 3-Star Hotel”

I recently enjoyed a 10 day stay at Hotel Plinius. The room and service were perfect for my needs. The staff was extremely helpful, especially Rosella at the front desk. She gave me perfect information and even made recommendations and reservations, if requested, for train, ferry, sites or restaurants The hotel is walking distance between two major train stations, including the one to Malpensa Airport in Milan. It's an easy trip and very economical. My room was clean and comfortable and pleasantly appointed. The air conditioning was most efficient and the bathroom was perfect, with a good size shower. It is in the center of all activity and just a few short blocks from the lake.

Area recommendations
I would recommend this area of town, which is the center of all activity. It is a short walking distance to the lakefront, restaurants, train and ferry service.
When to go
September is always a perfect month in Europe. Everything is still open, but most of the vast crowds are gone. Lake Como had perfect weather for the most part. Staying in Como for a Lake Como experience is the most convenient. You can get a train from Malpensa Airport to Como and be at your destination, then take ferry or bus to other beautiful towns on the lake at your convenience. The Villa d"Este Hotel in Cernobbio is a must-see, as is the town of Bellagio and the Villa Carlotta. There are restaurants everywhere, at every price point. As expected, most of the food is the best!
Getting there
Malpensa Airport , the major hub in Milan, is the closest to Como. There is a train directly below the arrival area that goes to Saranno, where you change to "Lago di Como Nord", which is in the center of town and an easy walk to many hotels. It is a fraction of the cost of taxi or private car service.
Getting around
Walking is the easiest and most convenient, especially after som of the meals. You can get to the major train service to the center of Milan, where you can connect to anywhere in Italy, and Switzerland. You also walk to shopping, restaurants, the lakefront and ferry and bus service for other towns around the lake.
Must see
Bellagio is a beautiful town up the lake and the ferry ride is a treat. Most of the towns are very pleasant for a walk or lunch.
Dining
Restaurants of every caliber and price point are all around. You can get someting simple and inexpenive or very elaborate and pricey without any problem. Many restaurants along the lakefront are very pleasant wit spectacular views of the lake.

“Good location”

Hotel in a good location, just off Piazza Volta & very close to the old town. Room was rather small for 2 people & the single glazed windows meant you could hear every word that people said in the street, even though we were on the first floor. Earplugs are recommended if you want a good night's sleep. Breakfast was standard for European hotels, a selection of bread, croissants, meats & cheese. Staff very pleasant. Overall not a bad hotel for the price.

Area recommendations
The old town. Nice to wander around the small streets & come across unexpected squares & churches.

“Gerne wieder.”

Ich hatte das Hotel bereits bei meiner vorletzten Como-Reise in der engeren Auswahl. Dieses Mal sollte es klappen. Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis per Hotelbewertungssites geprüft und über expedia gebucht. Die Lage mitten in der Altstadt in der Nähe des Sees und in der Nähe der Geschäftsgassen ist gerade zu ideal. Nachteil ist die Parkplatzsuche. Kostenlose Parkplätze gibt es ab Samstag Abend 20 Uhr bis Montag Früh 300 m entfernt. Weiterhin gibt es auch Parkhäuser in der Nähe. Wir sind mit unseren MTBs auf einem Fahrradträger transportiert angereist. Diese konnten wir kostenlos im Keller einlagern. Prima! Guter Service. Saubere Zimmer. Zimmer 400 etwas klein, für eine Nacht jedoch völlig ausreichen. Das einzige was uns nachhaltig gestört hat. Die Heizung lief auf vollen Touren. Irgendwie scheinen die Norditaliener etwas kälteempfindlich zu sein. Für uns Mitteleuropäer war's eindeutig zu warm. Das Frühstück ist okay. Es gab im Preis inklusive Filterkaffee, Tee, Marmelade, Nutella, Butter, Wurst, Käse, Obst Müsli, Saft und Wasser. Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato gegen Zahlung. Für mich okay. Cafe gibt es für mich eh in der nächsten Bar.

Area recommendations
Brunate (gute Blick auf die Stadt), Altstadt, außerhalb gute Supermärkte zu shoppen. Chiasso (CH) zum Tanken nutzen.
