“Lake Como center hotel .. convenient”

This is an architecturally beautiful hotel that should have been brought back to it's glory days...sadly the updating is too modern for the building. It could be beautiful again and far more welcoming. We arranged for a balcony room and it was a great view of the lake. Our room was lovely and immaculate, supplied with wonderful Italian linens. The bathroom shower was a little less than sufficient. The desk staff was friendly although not effusive, Breakfast was fair to good by American standards, the same EVERY DAY and over priced. (Beware: We only had coffee the last day and were charged for the full breakfast ... which was around $20+ each. Hopefully, that was a mistake.) The "grumpy hostess" in the breakfast room needs to retire or learn to smile..or at least hide her resentment of tourists. Their was an older gentleman manager for that area who was a true delight, patient and very helpful. The Filipino bartender gets 5 stars and they should give him a raise.. He was attentive and nice without "over serving." He kept us coming back each of our four evenings. Overall, it is hard to beat this location for the price. I would consider re booking if I went back to Como. I would prefer staying in another smaller town on the lake if possible.

“Hotel staff not helpful (and don't care if you have good experience)”

The hotel is in desperate need of updating, they seem to be doing it piecemeal as our bathroom was remodeled and nice, but the room was dark and dingy including very dirty carpets. My wife was very hesitant to put our 1 year old child on the floor. The front desk staff is NOT at all interested in ensuring you have a good stay in their hotel OR in Como. Will not recommend anything outside of eating at their restaurant. The pluses are: * Free WiFi in the lobby (though somewhat sporadic) along with nicely appointed lobby with comfortable chairs * Breakfast has a reasonable continental selection * You can't beat the location

“Great location”

Great lakefront location. Decor somewhat dated, TV antiquated and in-room internet access impossible to use due to ancient "keyboard" technology. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again as good value for money, especially given the location.

“MILAN-LAKE COMO”

THE HOTEL WAS BEAUTIFUL, GREAT LOCATION. OUR ROOM, WHICH WE PAID MORE FOR THIS, HAD A GREAT VIEW OF THE LAKE. BREAKFAST WAS NOT INCLUDED, WHICH I THOUGHT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE PRICE WE PAID. THE ONLY DRAW BACK WAS THAT THE BED WAS HARD, VERY UNCONFORTABLE.

“Not impressed”

“Great trip - nice hotel, but a bit pricey”

The hotel was very nice, upper scale, clean, and extremely well placed. Our room overlooked a square, the lake, and looked up towards the lighthouse. We were fairly comfortable, too. That being said, you could tell the hotel was a little older - even the clientele seems of "another generation." We felt very out of place because we were about 30-40 years younger than the average guest! All I can say about the price is thank God the euro was suffering, or we certainly would be more disappointed.

Area recommendations

This area was super convenient. I'd recommend it there. Most of como seems good, though I speak from little experience.

Getting there

It's a 2 minute cab ride (i think it was 6 euro), or about a 10 minute walk; either way it's very easy.

“Nice lobby, terrible room”

The hotel had a great location and nice restaurant and bar. The rooms were "tired" looking. Ours was on the fifth floor and it felt like we were in the attic. It was the smallest room I have ever had in a hotel and the bathroom was even smaller. The shower stall was slightly more than 24" sq. The mattress was mushy and old, It didn't live up to it's 4 star rating.

“Loved It!”

This is a great hotel in a perfect location on the Lake. We stayed on the 4th floor and payed for the Superior Room with a balcony - definitely worth the price. The crane is still working in front of the hotel - it's January 2010, and looks like it will be out front for months to come. However, it didn't hurt the view from 4th floor. The photos on Expedia may be older, because our room was very modernized and updated - a nice surprise. The bathroom has beautiful slate tile and a heated towel bar. Would definitely stay there again.
