“Great location, but expensive”
The location is fantastic. But, Hotel Excelsior Splendide was not all that it advertised. There is no parking at the hotel. They claim free parking, but it is public parking and quite a ways away. The "free" internet is not free. You have to pay a five euro registration fee first. We found other deals in town that were quite a bit less expensive -- B&B rooms associated with some of the shops -- but there's really no way to book them in advance. The Excelsiors' breakfast was good and the rooms serviceable. Not a bad place, the the advertised free parking and internet is an irritant.
“A favourite location”
We have stayed in this hotel 4 times now. We love Bellagio and the hotel is very good value, located as it is in front of the lake and in Bellagio's quaint old town. We find the area so relaxing for a short break. The hotel has a quaint charm to it and the older style rooms are just part of that. The only thing is it is important to book a room that is facing the lake and not too high up in the hotel so you can enjoy the high ceilings and breezy size of the rooms. We stayed in one on the higher floors facing away from the lake for one night once and we really didn't find it very 'charming' at all. As long as we book in time to guarantee a front facing room we'll be back!
“Bad Experience”
The only good thing abaout this hotel is the location. The hotel is run down (one bathroom had mold in it). We booked a quad room but when we got there all they had was two double rooms located pretty far from each other. They didn’t want to change the rooms saying that our children are big enough (12 and 18) to sleep by themselves in a different room. After long arguments they agreed to exchange the rooms next day with two adjacent rooms. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
“Belagio Jewel”
This is an older hotel that has recently updated its rooms (at least our room was much better than the Frommer's Guide led us to believe). The front desk was consistently helpful and knowledgeable. We had a fabulous view of the mountains. The room was small (but not by European standards) but comfortable for 3 people. This hotel is definitely a keeper.
“great views”
A simple hotel and quite expensive but with outstanding views from lake facing rooms. Everything in bellagio was within a 2 min walk so location wise it is ideal but then again that goes for most hotels in bellagio. Bellagio and Varenna are both beautiful. There could be better value for money hotels in Varenna and it's 10 mins on the boat away.
“The Grand Dame of Bellagio”
Having read some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive about staying here. I need not have worried. We had a twin room (Room 36) which had a small balcony overlooking lake como - we really couldn't have asked for a better view. The room was basic, spotlessly clean but had all we needed for a 3 night stay. OK it would have been great to have a double bed each with lovely fluffy pillows but for the price we paid we didn't expect this - I am really fussy about my pillows but they were fine. The staff were very friendly, helpful (we decided to go to Switzerland for the day) and they found out the times of the ferries and buses and gave us a map with our route to the bus station highlighted - we couldn't have asked for more. I would definitely go back and would certainly recommend to others. Its not the Ritz but a good clean basic hotel. Yes its seen better days but our room and the service we received could not be faulted. Bellagio itself was wonderful and the excellent ferry services meant you could travel to other villages on the lake easily.
“You get what you pay for so don't expect the Ritz but would definitely go back again.”
Great location. Hotel was charming. Room was basic but clean. Staff weren't rude but they were indifferent. If you're after a pleasant, inexpensive and clean hotel in a great location, then this is it. We'd stay there again.
“waterfront hotel”
lovely hotel, friendly staff. bit noisy due to being next to ferry terminal, but lovely altogether.
“location”
Great Location
“Not impressed”
There was no air conditioning and we had a ver noisy free standing fan which we had to place close to the bed as room was small. Plastic cups at breakfast does nothing for the hotels image and have never stayed in a hotel where breakfast tea and coffee was out of a machine!!!! Location is ideal but simple things could really improve its rating, like tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar etc. Would not go back and would not really recommmend it
