“Quite liked it”
I only stayed one night, but found it quite pleasant. Less than ten minutes walk from the attractive old part of town, and five mins from Como Borghi station. Room basic, but nicely done - internet worked fine. Reception staff very friendly and helpful -- somewhat less so the breakfast staff. In fact breakfast a bit disappointing (yet another coffee machine which doesn't make very good coffee!). Anyway, overall good experience, and reasonable value for money as far as this area goes.
“Very impressed with the Hotel and we will go back and recommend it to our friends”
We were welcomed with a very pleasant reception, the staff at the reception desk was very polite and friendly and well dressed.(which I always notice being a personal Image Consultant) When we entered room 104 we were pleased to notice how clean the room and bath room was. The towels were white and very clean. The twin room was very spacious with a good size wardrobe.( I would opt for a twin room again, because when I walked by an open door to a double room, I found the double beds quite small) I always check the beds first and the mattress was so comfortable and the white linen was crisp and clean 10 out of 10. The room had steel shutters on the outside, which you could open and close from the inside with a turning handle. This kept the room safe dark and cool. We kept the windows open at night, since it was quiet all the time. The Air conditioning was fine, everything worked except we had poor sound on the only English speaking channel on the TV. But other than the news who needs a tv when you are in such a gorgeous place by a magnificent Lake.
“Don't be fooled by 'free parking'”
There is only very limited free parking at Hotel Como which will probably be full if you visit in high season. The hotel offers paid parking, but this is in a small garage where it is virtually impossible to move your car around. The receptionist was very rude. The pool is small with only very limited space around for sunbathing. The barman, however, was very polite and helpful. Our room was clean and the breakfast was good. On balance the hotel was good enough for one night, but we wouldn't stay there longer and the attitude of the front-of-house staff needs to be addressed.
“Not bad, but not 4*”
The hotel has gone through a box ticking exercise in order to class itself as 4*. While it may satisfy the criteria, in reality its only 3* quality. It's not bad, (in need of modernisation maybe)just nowhere near good enough to charge the prices it does. On the plus side the room was massive.
