We stayed one night in Riga with our 1 year old son as a stopgap from elsewhere in the country. Arriving travel weary at around 1000 am the staff let us check in well before time, found us a room straight away and got everything set up for our tired little boy. The room was comfortable and clean. The room was more basic then we have been used to at the advertised standard but the bathroom was well equipped which made up for any perceived shortfall.
We ate at the restaurant through convenience but were both extremely happy with the choice. The setting is fantastic and the food was excellent. Highly recommended on the basis of high quality and good value.
In summary a really pleasant stay in a lovely hotel with excellent decor, helpful staff and a top notch restaurant to boot.
A lovely hotel that once formed part of an old church. You are reminded of this by the deliberate partial exposure of old brick through the rendering.
Another nice touch were old relics found during the renovation displayed on the 3rd floor landing......a military forage cap dating around the mid to late 19th century and some old nails etc....
The room was pleasant & I particularly liked the old wardrobe. There is a good selection of food to suit all tastes at breakfast.
The staff were a little aloof, only one receptionist was warm and smiley, all other receptionists I met & the breakfast staff were unsmiling and reserved. This might be part of the cultural behavior in Riga. Whilst out & about in town I held the door open at the entrance of a shopping mall twice & received no acknowledgement of thanks. But the hotel has a nice old worldy ambiance that I really liked. I would certainly recommend it due to it's central location in the old part of town and for anyone who enjoys staying in places with a sense of history.
It is an old building from the 1700's and in the old part of Riga, which is just like old Europe. Cobblestone streets and all. Old Riga is absolutely beautiful and would be best in the summer. Prices are very good. I went to the opera for $20 USD. There is an enormous market close by - indoor and out. The restaurant at the hotel was closed for renovations while I was there, which was a disappointment - it has a fireplace and and outdoor section, but the staff were wonderful, and happy to bring complimentary tea, coffee, and breakfast to the room. Everything is within walking distance. It was wonderful.
And everyone I met was very nice.
