This block of self catering studio apartments in a central location in Kyoto met all our needs. The reception staff were exceptionally well informed and able to explain everything in very good English. They had a better knowledge of the Kyoto bus network than in the bus information centre! A printed information shops about nearby restaurants or shops or temples was available to answer all our questions.

Everything about this hotel was great especially considering what we paid in comparison to other hotels we've stayed at in Kyoto and Japan (I'm looking at you kyoto tower hotel)
Area is close enough to a lot of the good stuff, we rented bikes which we used to get everywhere.
To buy knock against it is the really head mattresses, but that seems to be a Japan thing I it's on par with other hotels in that respect
This is not exactly a ryokan - it is a modern hotel decorated in traditional style with futons However, it was in a lively area, the staff were charming and helpful, , the room was spacious and clean and the price was very reasonable. There was a laundry room in the basement and a wonderful spa. I can't really fault it and would absolutely recommend it as a mid-range hotel.
"Excellent traditional experience close to everythi"
Really stay in a ryokan so I don't know how faithful this is to the traditional experience. What I can say is that staff are exceptional - welcoming and friendly. Rooms are minimally furnished as is expected in a ryokan but comfortable and with all modern conveniences. We didn't have dinner but breakfasts were excellent.
Great location in Kyoto, opposite the famous Nijo Castle, and just a 100m walk to the bus stop (buses are great top use in this city!). the staff were wonderful they assisted us in making dinner reservations (and even making suggestions), the service and quality was great and there is a lot on offer in terms of restuarants and supermarkets in this area. Not far to the trendy Ginza or Shijo-Dori, and was great great value for money. The rooms were very spacious, including the bathroom (not common for Japan accomodation).
Definately a great place to stay for everyone.
