“Decent hotel, tiny rooms, virtually no one speaks English”
Decent hotel pretty close to the main shopping street (Shijo Dori, which has free wifi by the way), but very small rooms. The Double Room in particular is TINY. Note that this hotel's guests are mostly Japanese. Perhaps as a result of this fact, none of the staff speak a lick of English - be warned. Kyoto is a lovely city.
“Good location”
Clean hotel with large beds, good location for shopping, 3 Poi in 5 minutes
“Convenient location, friendly staff”
The Aranvert is a five minute walk from Gojo subway station, which is one stop from Kyoto Station, so it's very convenient. There are convenience stores, a supermarket, a Macdonalds, noodle bars, internet cafe and post office close by. I wasn't in Kyoto for sight-seeing, but you can walk to department stores and Nishiki Market, and can easily bus or subway to other attractions. The hotel staff are very friendly, efficient and helpful and can speak some English. My room was kept beautifully clean and was big compared to many Japanese hotel rooms. It was also very quiet. There was no view though. The hotel breakfast is expensive but if you want to eat healthy and not feel hungry again till dinner, it's worth the price.
“Convenient public transportation”
The hotel is close to a subway line and to stops of city bus. Although nothing interesting is within walking distance, you can get to all the tourist places conveniently with public transportation. The hotel is nice, but our room was very small and not very clean with stains on the chair and bed cover. It was a non-smoking room, but we could still smell cigarette smoke from previous visitors. The hotel personnel at the front desk consisted of inexperienced students. Some of them gave us wrong information about transportation, banking, etc., but others were able to correct these. There is no WiFi, only one outlet of wired internet connection per room, for free. There is no business center to print out e.g. our boarding passes, but we copied files to USB sticks and the receptionist did print them out for us.
“Wonderful stay at the Aranvert Hotel Kyoto”
The hotel is in an excellent location, they staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean.
“Nice, clean hotel, with fun robes!”
We were in Kyoto for a weekend and only spent one night at the Aranvert Hotel Kyoto. The location was easy to access from the subway, if you get off at the right stop. The hotel is very clean, and spacious. We were so busy sightseeing, that we only spent the 1 night at the hotel, getting in late and leaving early the next morning. Our luggage spent more time there than we did. The room was comfortable and big enough for the 3 of us, as we each had our own bed. The fun part was the kimona style robe & jacket that was provided w/slippers to access the baths. The staff was efficient and helpful with directions. There are no brochures for sites to see and things to do. We had to go to the Tourist Information Center at Kyoto Station for that. I was disappointed that there was no wifi, as I thought that there would be. All and all, the Aranvert was a good stay and I would recommend it.
“Great Hotel”
Aranvert Hotel was a perfect place to stay for us. When we planned our trip to Kyoto, we did not expect to spend a lot of time in the hotel, so the small-ish size (though roomy by some Japanese standards) was no problem. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, and our room was clean and comfortable. It is certainly not a resort, but it is a nice place to sleep after a day traversing the streets. The neighborhood is not anything special, but the hotel is less than 5 minutes walking from both a subway station and a bus station. It is also about 15 minutes to Kyoto Station, where you can get anything you need. I would definitely stay there again.
“Good for the price”
Convenient location, while not in the city center it was close to the bus route which is essential for Kyoto.
“Nice low-budget hotel in good location”
I booked this hotel primarily based on location and price. The hotel is really easy to reach, just 1 subway station from Kyoto train station and 5 minutes easy walk. All mayor sightseing spots were easy to reach with subway and / or buses. The hotel was clean and nice. Unfortunately the TV had only one english speeking channel and internet in the room was only available via LAN cable, I would have hoped for WiFi so I could have read my emails on my Smart Phone. Overall good experience.
“Overpriced. Far from action. You can find better, even in a pinch by just coming and looking around”
Get real on location and price. Location: yes it is close (.7 miles) to central station, but is a 30-minute brisk walk to the nice epicenter of the city by the river/stream. This was where we wanted to be when not visiting temples...so please look for a place much closer to the East side of town near river. Price: my wife and I are 30, been many places around the world. Measure all by the standard of Holiday Inn ($39-$99/night--always know you can expect clean and acceptable). This hotel looked great from the lobby, elevator, and hallway, but disappointed upon closer look at the room. We stayed 3 nights due to expedia booking, but would have left early had we not booked before seeing. We asked for non-smoking room and were given keys to smoking room at first. Then when we went to front desk to change, they gave us keys to non-smelly room with cigarette burns in the pink low-pile carpet, and cigarette burns on the bed comforter. We didn't say more--not that type of people. It was livable and we knew we were here to be outside after all. Just thought we will report the truth. This place needs more attention to details and should be priced around $75 dollars.
