Exactly what we were looking for

Pros: All the staff were fantastic. (Especially Chelsea-Leigh at reception)
Cons: The renovation will improve everything. Would be nice to have more electric outlets to charge all our gadgets.
Location: There are a few things in walking distance, but we had a car and everything was a short drive away. I would recommend hiring a car
We stayed at the hotel over the Easter week-end. Even though the hotel was fully booked, the staff were super helpful, friendly and patient. The hotel is going through a renovation. We were in one of the older rooms, which was still extremely comfortable, but the upgraded rooms are going to be awesome. We will defiantly book here again if we are in the area.

Many aspects of our stay were very good. Excellent location, helpful and friendly staff, and general quality of hotel accommodation. However, noise in room at night from Hops bar was awful. While we were given a different room to sleep in on our second night, no guest should be expected to have a room with such a high level of noise. This would apply to many rooms in the hotel. In addition, Internet access was not available and appeared to have no prospect of being fixed in the near future.

While the hotel is situated in a beautiful area and very convenient to many tourist locations, we were very disappointed at the comfort level in the hotel. We booked into the hotel because of comfort during the hot summer days and were bitterly disappointed with the air-conditioning throughout the hotel. My sister also booked into the hotel and had a room with a mal-functioning air-conditioner. She and her family comprising of 3 young children had to endure a temperature of 30 degrees. Her room was changed on the last night but due to a family function, she returned to the hotel midnight and had to move all her belongings herself to the new room. Two visits by a maintenance man made no difference and his promise to come back to her was not fulfilled. Overall this hotel has great potential and can be one of the best with better air-conditioning.

Riverside Hotel Durban functional but well located

Hotel graded as a 4 star, more like a 3 star hotel by international standards. Check in and out very easy, staff very helpful. Hotel well located for access to Durban and the northern coast or King Shaka airport. Rooms comfortable, beds a bit hard and some noise from air conditioners which are situated outside each room. Spa very good with thorough treatments which are a little on the pricey side vs overseas pricing.
