“Lovely room, friendly staff, convenient location”
Rooms were very clean, split lounge/bedroom area with small kitchenette. Bed very comfy, heating/AC, sofa bed in lounge - could do with somewhere to put cases as bedroom small. Room service/maid service excellent and fast, reception could not do enough for you from directions to providing a reasonable driver (son of receptionist), very friendly staff. Pool small but nice, bar service and full reakfast available, though couldn't comment on quality as we ate out. Location is 10 mins walk to waterfront, which was ideal. Excellent mexican El Burrito 5 mins away and lovely cafes in a small mall 10mins walk away. Was me and my son and we had a great time. Would recommend Travolta the taxi driver on 0734383676, reliable, cheap and good bloke, took us to airport for 200 when others were quoting 350.
“Avoid this one at all costs unless you go with one of their absolutely best rooms”
When we first arrived to our room, it was small and cramped. The double bed that we had requested was in fact two singles shoved together. Worse yet, it smelled strongly of cat urine. We were informed that there had been a massive flood on that floor the week before, which happened to be the top floor. Air conditioning moved the stench throughout the floor. We were given a different room, which was worlds better. Unfortunately construction work on the ducts started at 7 a.m. every day, but oddly ended around 11 a.m. The restaurant offered limited choices, and for some reason they kept trying to seat guests at a table with a big column next to it even though the restaurant was almost completely empty. The rest of the staff was extraordinarily accomodating and friendly, very concerned for our safety, since the immediate area is known for not being safe. The beach front of the hotel is undergoing major renovation, so there is heavy machinary and obstacles everywhere and the place is all ripped up. Inane music starts blaring at 8 a.m. and continues until after 10 p.m. This hotel seems to be located in a fairly dangerous area: avoid the nearby beach, since there's no effective security, and avoid the adjacent side street. Sketchy at best. For a four-star establishment, we were very disappointed. I'd look at other options before considering this one again. If I were to stay again, I'd go with one of the corner rooms on the top floor overlooking the ocean. Those were pretty sweet.
“Friendly helpful staff except for room assignment.”
We chose this hotel because when I grew up in Durban it was the best. We were disappointed in the room and in the willingness of the front desk staff to put us in a better room.
