“JUST THE JOB”

There's not much in the surrounding area but handy enough for a short tram ride to the centre. Staff were generally friendly and helpful, breakfast plentiful and good, room was spotless and maintained. Only crib would maybe be lack of a kettle in the room for a morning brew...............

Area recommendations
Main purpose of our trip was to visit Auschtwitz. Usually we'd try to do things independently using public transport etc but we eventually did it on an organised tour (an hour travel, 4 hours guided and an hour back) which was fine because we'd have ended up on a tour once we arrived there anyway. Very busy place though and you were encouraged to keep moving by the (very friendly and informative) guide. Similar experience at the Salt Mines where we felt the trip, although spectacular in parts, was rather drawn out. Schindler's Factory had an enormous amount of video diaries, photographs and exhibits all to do with the occupation and was well worth the visit although we were slightly disappointed in Wawel Castle. Food was great throughout, beer was fine and weather was absolutely freezing!

“Nice Hotel”

Hotel is in a good location, easy access to the centre and a tram stops outside which is cheap but get a visitors ticket which lasts for three days. Get the ticket from the machine at the tram stop as when we went to the train/bus station the staff didn't know anything about the tourist ticket.

Area recommendations
I would recommend visiting Auschwitz but get a bus from the station and make your own way, it's alot cheaper and you'll save alot of money as the tours cost alot more. Salt Mine was alright but wasn't impressed.

“Great for a city break”

Marvellous hotel, a little out of the centre but with such an excellent transport system and trams every few minutes to almost outside the door - it was not a problem at all. trams were nos. 8 and 10. The room was clean and fresh and tidy, the bathroom was lovely and roomy. The breakfast was very fresh and enjoyable. The staff spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful. Loved every minute of my stay and would hope to go again. If you want to do any of the trips to places out of town eg Auschwitz or the Salt mine then just take public transport - its so much cheaper! And very easy to do. And Schindler's factory museum is even within walking distance. And highly recommended - I went twice. A lot of museums etc seem to be free on Mondays. Enjoy!

“Ideal centre for sightseeing.”

We were originally booked into sistyer hotel 3k outside city centre. The new hotel made sight seeing infinitely easier - it was within 2 or 3 minutes walk of several of the places we most wished to see and less than 10 minutes from several of the others. While not as comfortable as our original choice we are glad we made the change which enabled us to see more of one of the most attractive cities in Europe.

Area recommendations
Wawel is an absulte must . If baroque churches are an interest there are almost too many to visit. There are sevral places relating to the WW2 occupation and I would reccommend the Galicia exhibition very highly - it is basically a photographic representation of the last hundred years of jewish life in the capital and elsewhere in the country. The photographs of Auschwitz are so powerful we decided not to visit the site of the camp. We are not Jewish but I would say this exhibition was almost the highlight of our visit. Would have liked to have visited the salt mines but this entails more walking than we are capable of - sevral people said it was a memorable experience. Polish food is interesting, the ervice extremely friendly in all the restaurants we visited. Would also reccommend several of the concerts held in various churches throughout the city - the surroundings heighten the enjoyment.
Must see
Wawel - castle and Cathedral. Would suggest you go early, it entails a lot of walking on the tours of both and the crowds soon grow - also it gets quite hot and tiring as the day (from May onwards) goes on.
Dining
Several of the restaurants in which we ate were located in the Kazimierz district. We were not disappointed in any of the ones we tried where the food was basically "Polish" and the service extremely friendly with English spoken throughout. We tried different local dishes virtually everyday and enjoyed them greatly.

“lovely food and comfy beds”

we were upgraded to a quad room without even asking and at the same price as a double room. The reception were very polite and helpful. We loved the food at the restaurant and it was very reasonably priced. My daughter loved the grilled chiken the best.I loved the beef stew with fried potatoes and the cocunut icecream desert.

Traveller's tip
really good economic trams at the doorstep.Plus the cinema 3 stops away on tram no.8 is in english with polish subtititles, just for the novelty factor!
