“Excellent budget hotel.”

Receptionists at the hotel went out of their way to be helpful. Their recommendations for restaurants were superb. Room was small and simple, but very clean with comfortable beds, tea-making equipment and clean, new bathroom. Breakfast buffet had hot food, cereals, meats, fruit, yoghurts - everything you could want, simply presented. Good position near castle. Short walk to town centre. Very good value for money.

Area recommendations
The market square is the focus of most of the action. It is a delightful place with plenty to see and lots of atmosphere. The mediaeval university is nearby and there are lots of students in Krakow. The street cafes are a delight - excellent coffee and much cheaper than at home.
Must see
Castle and cathedral, market square, university, Chopin concerts.

“Location Location!!!”

Wonderful location right on the river with fantastic views of river & castle. For the price we paid can not fault this 3 star hotel. Room small but very well appointed with tea/coffee making facility, room safe, hairdryer, small fridge, air-con, quiet & shower with good water pressure. Staff very helpfull. Breakfast was included in room rate & quite adequate.

“we had a good experience”

We had a superior room on floor three, with a good view of the river. The room was more than adequate only complaint would be that the air con turned off at night and as the weather was good the room was a little hot at night. With the windows open there was alot of traffic noise until 2ish and from 6ish in the morning. Good roof terrace lovely position for castle, main square and jewish quarter. We liked this hotel.

Area recommendations
old town square for hustle and bustle. Planty for shade. Jewish quarter and Ghetto remnants. Auschwittz of course.

“excellent position in Krakow”

The Pod Wewelem is an excellent modern mid sized hotel in great position , very near the castle hill and also the river. Very comfortable rooms with excellent beds. The rooftop bar/cafe is also very nice, but the view not quite as good as expected. Breakfasts plentiful and good quality and range of buffet foods. Hotel staff friendly and most could understand English well. My only real criticism would have to be the showers. Low water pressure and hard to regulate with sudden changes from hot or warm to cold. This could be very frustrating. Overall though very well positioned hotel close to all the sites and very good value. Would definitely go back.

Area recommendations
Old town because of lots of interesting sites, good restaurants etc

“Good location - good price - good value”

Newer good, clean, quiet accommodations on the edge of Old Town. We've been there twice and would stay there again. Our guests from Canada were very satisfied. The only problem is the hotel has no parking but there is expensive secure underground parking across the street.

“great location - great service”

This was a great hotel, small but perfectly formed! They replied promptly to email queries and were very helpful when questioned. They arranged a taxi to pick us up from the airport (80 PLN £20) and kept bags until check-in time. Rooms are fine - no luxuries but the usual nescafe sachets and dried milk! The roof terrace is great, fantastic views and reasonable prices - great to wind down whilst watching the world go by below. I highly recommend a tour in a 'golf cart' to the Jewish district and Schindler's factory - about £50 but great to really get a feel for the city. Auschwitz is a must - book throught the hotel with Krakow Tours and you'll get a great deal - £30 per adult which includes return coach, entrance to both camps and the services of a guide - fantastic value. The castle and cathedral were disappointing - not enough information to really grasp the history. A wander through the market square in the evening will give you a chance to sample local food and crafts. Lots of restaurants to choose from catering for all food tastes. Not much vegetarian food available but I managed! All in all, a great break in a modern, clean and comfortable hotel.

“Great staff, fab location”

My stay here was my first solo trip abroad, but the staff were so friendly and helpful that I didn't ever feel isolated in the city. They all spoke good English and didn't laugh at my doubtless awful attempts at Polish, and booked my transfers and a trip out to Auschwitz at a good price. Bonus points go to Sylwia for helping me to find the mummies! The hotel itself is clean and comfortable with a generous breakfast buffet and a good restaurant if you don't fancy heading out for the night. The plumbing made a few funny noises but there was a knack to it. It's location is perfect, right by the castle and the river and conveniently between Old Town and Kazimierz. Not fancy, but good for the price and very welcoming.

Area recommendations
Don't miss the museum underneath Rynek Glowny, and make sure that you take a walk round Kazimierz. Have a drink in the Singer Cafe for some fantastic atmosphere and a meal at Starka for a perfect evening.

“Perfect for a sightseeing trip to Krakow.”

Perfectly located for the main attractions of Krakow. Right next to Wawel Castle and Cathedral, wonderful river views. Information centre directly opposite (opens at 10am) but hotel staff are vey helpful if you need any information. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice to suit everyone. The hotel restaurant - Malecon, has a great choice with good prices and great food and service. Hotel was very clean. Only downside is poor TV for english speakers and soundproofing could be better but generally a quiet hotel. Hotel is good value for money. Krakow has a great range of restaurants and bars and was surprised to find it was so reasonable to eat at any of the restaurants in the main square area. Recommend - Miod Malina, Galamatias(in jewish Quarter), Bar Grodski, Halweka. Didn't have one bad meal in Krakow.

Area recommendations
Highly recommend a trip to Auschwitz/Birkenau - you will go through every emotion during your visit. Public transport was an excellent way to get there (bus from main Krakow bus station). Very informative english speaking guide. Be prepared for lots of walking; this area is freezing in the winter and very hot in the summer due to its location - dress appropriatley. If you have time walk everywhere you can - Kazimierz and Podgorze areas are worth a visit. Free walking tours are available for central Krakow- meet at St. Mary's Basilica on the main square at 11am - fun and interesting with a great guide. If you want to see communist areas go to Nowa Huta; it is very different to the centre of Krakow and is not to everyones taste but it is good to see how different these areas are from one another. Take tram no. 4.
