“Location could not be bettered, would stay here again”

We arrived by overnight train for a four night stay so were at the hotel before 8:00 am. The young man on the desk said he could not find our booking, told us to leave our cases, go and explore, and a room would be ready, probably by 11:00 am. Returned around 10:30 am to a room we were able to go straight into. The staircase leading to the floors is lovely, sweeping and very elegant. The hallways are curved and have archways, very nice. Our room was large, comfortable, overlooked the church opposite. The lift is slow but soundless. We were 5 minutes from a large mall and 5 minutes from the start of the old town. Breakfast was included and was and was good - scrambled eggs and sausage, toast and spreads and the usual European cold meats, cheeses, breads etc. The staff, apart from the young man mentioned above, were not friendly but did respond to requests. This may be partially due to the language problem. Wifi did not work in the room but we were able to sit in the restaurant and use it for as long as we wanted.

Area recommendations
We would recommend the area around the old town as there is so much to do here - explore the market square, the tunnels under the market square, the churches, walk through the park to Wawel Castle, a must, as it gives you an insight into the history of Kracow. Plenty of restaurants and cafes here. We even found a New Zealand burger bar, the Moa Burger, which has lovely, tasty, big hamburgers - a meal in themselves.
Getting there
We travelled by overnight train to Kracow station which is connected to the mall. Even though it was only about 7:30 am the doors to the Mall were open. We had breakfast at McDonalds just inside thee doors so we would not be at the hotel too early. The exit to the street from the Mall is on the next level. If you want to stay undercover until you arrive at the street to the hotel walk from the escalator to the shop called Dames. The exit here is at the crossing to the street the hotel is on - you then have a five minute walk. There are 2 Apart Hotels on this street, the entrance to the Hotel Matejko is around the corner.

“Excellent Location”

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Hotel Matejko. It isnt a 5 star hotel but is a very good 3 star. It is situated only minutes walks from the Market Square with bars and restaurant close by. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast is really good. A great hotel in an excellent location.

“Americans in Matejko”

I very much enjoyed my stay at Hotel Matejko. The breakfast was filling, the service was great, the rooms were clean, location was absolutely perfect, everything was to the tops. The only qualm I had about staying there was that one day we left the room with a bag full of uneaten french fries in the room, figuring we'd come back to them later and when we did return, the french fries were not there! The cleaning woman through away OUR FRENCH FRIES which was quite ridiculous considering there were tissues sitting on the counter that she couldn't've picked up and thrown away instead. Other than that, I loved Matejko and I loved Krakow.

Area recommendations
GO TO: The Salt Mine and Auschwitz-Berkenau. Both tours were fantastic and well worth the drive and price. I wish I could have stayed longer at both places. The Schindler Factory was interesting, but not too much remains from the original building...at least not in its initial state. Krakow has so many nooks and crannies and it was fabulous to discover them.
Dining
The food is delicous. Wesele and its family restaurants were wonderful. All dining experiences were great.

“great hotel for the price”

There are several hotels to select from in Krakow. This hotel offered all of the services of a four star hotel for an extremely attractive price. The room was huge and we had a balcony which overlooked the street. The room and the hotel itself were very clean. We left prior to the included breakfast and the hotel staff had boxed breakfasts waiting for us as we checked out. We feel this hotel can't be beat when you consider the quality, the location, and the price. Thank you!

“A good and comfortable hotel, well situated.”

I was very impressed with the hotel, and will certainly use it again. It is a short step from the Barbican and the Floriana Gate, and is conveniently placed for good shops and the railway and bus stations. The breakfast was more than adequate, and the situation reasonably quiet. My room was clean and well looked-after; my only minuses are that the duvet did have a few holes in the cover, and the heating in my room struggled a little against the admittedly rather cold weather.

Area recommendations
There are some excellent little cafes and bars in and around the Old City; shops and stalls in the Market Square are well worth a visit, and I enjoyed the Bavarian restaurant not far from the Wawel Castle.

“Would love to go again”

The hotel was ideally situated, close to the railway station (useful for the train to the airport) & the Galleria Krakowski shopping centre (270 shops & open until 10 pm). Its only a 5 minute walk to the the main square of Krakow. We found the rooms very comfortable & the breakfast excellent. There are no tea/coffee making facilities so take a jug kettle etc. The 304 bus to the Salt Mines stops round the corner from the hotel but buy tickets for the bus & also the trams from kiosks as its easier than trying to work the machines onboard! We can recomend a visit to Oskar Schindler's factory which is now a museum & also to Auschwitz. On a lighter note take a stroll round the Planty or enjoy a drink late at night at one of the many bars/restaurants round Ryneck Glowny( main square). There is plenty going on & a blanket to keep warm with is often provided.

“Good location”

Hotel is 5minutes walk virtually opposite the railway station as you exit through the shopping mall. Situated just out side the city wall, head for the barbican, visible from the entrance of hotel and through the Florian gate and the main square is straight ahead. Good selection of breakfast buffet spread, room very clean and fair size but no air con, gets very hot in the summer.Only deluxe rooms and apartments have air-con. Bus 304 round the corner of hotel goes to the Salt-mine, highly recommended. Have found the Polish people very helpful and friendly with directions and buying tickets on the buses.

Area recommendations
A walk around the Planty, which is a green park surrounding Krakow, it's cool and shady on a hot day , a place to sit and people watch . The free walking tour of Krakow is highly recommended. Starts daily at 11 am and 3.pm outside St Mary's church in the main square. The morning tour covers the Old Quater and the Wawel Hill, the afternoon tour covers the Kazimierz and Jewish area , 2-3 hours of walking involved. Voluntary tipping the guide at the end.

“Really good service. The room is spacious and large”

Close to everything of interest. Very close to the train station. Hotel rep took care of some of our reservations diligently. Breakfast buffet was ok.
